YouTube acquires Twitch for more than $1 billion

Update: Twitch PR Director Chase has responded to a Shacknews inquiry, replying, "We don't comment on rumors." Furthermore, the deal isn't entirely a sure thing, according to the Wall Street Journal. Twitch is currently exploring other revenue options that do not include selling the company. Original story: YouTube has reportedly reached a deal to acquire video game streaming company Twitch, according to sources. The deal is for more than $1 billion, all in cash. The deal is said to be the largest in YouTube's history.

Rare suffers layoffs following Kinect Sports Rivals launch

Microsoft first-party studio Rare has reportedly suffered layoffs, following the launch of Kinect Sports Rivals. Microsoft confirmed a "change to our development process and methodology at Rare," but did not disclose the reason for the layoffs or specific numbers.

Night Trap scaring up an HD return

The Sega CD era brought us a number of infamously bad full-motion video titles, such as Slam City With Scottie Pippen, the Corey Haim-starrer Double Switch and, of course, the office favorite Make My Music Video Featuring Marky Mark. But none could come close to the entertaining cheese level of Night Trap, a game where you protected scantily clad college hotties from a group of high tech vampires that use equipment to suck blood by setting off traps. (You know, because traps, in the night!) Well, it appears that experience is about to make an HD comeback. No, we're not kidding.

Guerrilla Games recently announced a new co-op expansion for Killzone: Shadow Fall called Intercept. It's a different take on the Helghast war, as four players band together as Intelligence Squad Alpha and attempt to take the fight to the enemy military while gathering and relaying vital intel. It's a new class-based co-op take on the Killzone formula and one that Shacknews recent had the opportunity to try out.

  What do you think about putting the audio of this out as a podcast? None of the news sources I run through in the mornings as I cook and commute talk about games at all.
  
  I don't think the video content in Shack Snacks is often essential to telling the stories, and it would be great to have just a quick 2-3 minute update list of the latest gaming news among my podcasts.
