Pokemon is getting its own 3DS StreetPass game in Japan, to tie into an upcoming movie release.

Nintendo's introduction of four new StreetPass games was a rousing success, even without relying on the company's recognizable franchises. Its next StreetPass game, only set for Japan so far, may produce similar numbers by leaning on one of its most popular series: Pokemon.

The Thieves and the 1,000 Pokemon is an eShop game that combines collecting pocket monsters with collecting StreetPasses. In hindsight, it seems so obvious. According to the announcement (via Joystiq), players will find and collect stickers of Pokemon by streetpassing with other players, and then use those Pokemon to defeat the thieves who stole their loot.

It's a tie-in to the upcoming film, Pokemon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction. The game will be free in Japan between June 5 and September 30 to tie into the movie's July 19 release, but no western date has been announced.
