Sledgehammer Games is working on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. But, the studio is no stranger to the Call of Duty series. Before co-developing Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward, the studio had been working on a third-person entry in the series--one that would eventually get canned.

According to studio cofounder Glen Schofield, the now-canceled game would have taken place during the "Secret War" in Cambodia and Laos during the Vietnam War. However, the setting was simply "too obscure."

"We had spent six or eight months on it, and were really getting into the story," Schofield told Game Informer (via Gamespot). The game would have featured "some Dead Space moments," given the studio's long history with the EA franchise.

Of course, while there are ideas from that project Schofield "would love to get into a game someday," it doesn't appear the team has too many regrets. "We would have loved to make that [third-person] game. It was in a space that we enjoyed, but how does anything compare to the first-person blockbuster release of 2011?"

too bad. i wouldn't have minded CoD going back to their roots of how shitty war actually is, using the criminally underutilized Vietnam war (atleast considering the gaming medium), with horror elements. Curious as to why 3rd person was chosen though.
