A new report claims that Neversoft, the studio best known for the Tony Hawk series, will be no more. The studio became a support team for the development of Call of Duty: Ghosts, and it appears that role will be permanent.

"Neversoft and Infinity Ward teamed up for the development of Call of Duty: Ghosts," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said in an internal Activision memo. "And through that process, it became clear that the two studios have very complementary skill sets. Between these two excellent studios, it seemed like a single 'super-studio' could emerge."

Because the two teams are being merged, the Neversoft name is being phased out. Why? Call of Duty, of course. "Since the Infinity Ward brand is indelibly tied to the Call of Duty franchise, it is the sensible choice," he said, according to the Giant Bomb acquired memo. "While it will be strange to not see the Neversoft logo on future games, the important things--which are the Neversoft team's talent, creativity, professionalism and commitment to creative excellence--all remain unchanged as part of this new chapter."

Infinity Ward's next Call of Duty game is expected to drop in 2016, as part of the franchise's new three-year development cycle.
