'Project Legion' is a new PC FPS set in the EVE Online universe

CCP has announced a new "project" during its Fanfest. Dubbed "Legion," the first-person shooter is aiming for PC--unlike the team's previous free-to-play PS3 shooter, DUST 514. It promises to be "more of a sandbox experience" and "more true to EVE," according to executive producer Jean-Charles Gaudechon.

According to Polygon, players begin each round in a hangar, scanning starfields for battles and contracts--much like in DUST. However, the PvE co-op "sandbox" can be a scary place to explore. If you enter a low-security area, friendly fire will be turned on, and you can be betrayed by other players and have your loot taken.

CCP stresses that this "project" isn't a real game yet, but wanted to get feedback from the community. "If the community doesn't react well... more importantly they will help us shape the right product," Gaudechon told Polygon.

Of course, CCP's last big "project" was EVE-VR, which ended up turning into EVE: Valkyrie, a fully-featured game for Oculus and Morpheus. Should EVE players take to Legion, the game will move into full production onto PC--and quite possibly PS4 as well.

"We're still in project stage, we're very much in the stage of sharing with the community, very CCP style, to get feedback."

Dust 514 never really took off, it seemed.

Gameplay issues aside, tying Dust 514 to a single game console at the end of its life cycle never seemed like a great idea to me.

I wondered why Dust 514 was never coming to PC, this would explain it.

The corp I'm in has had a few Dust players join every so often. Many of them have that mentality of, 'the game could be great, but there's so much dragging it down that it's often a nearly broken experience'.

Some of them grasp what Eve Online is all about, and these have remarked how Dust seems to be in conflict with what Eve is. That is often attributed to CCP having to make concessions with Sony concerning design decisions. CCP effectively lost creative control with Dust and were unable to integrate Dust in a meaningful way with Eve - as was the original creative vision of the project.

What the hell are you talking about?

The only creative concessions that CCP had to make for Dust is the fact that it was on a platform that was totally underpowered for what Dust needs to be,and had to use UE3 instead or their house made Carbon Engine, which melted the PS3's that they used.Sony themselves have absolutely nothing to do with that as it was CCP's decision to develop for the PS3.

Originally, they wanted to develop on the 360,but because MS wouldn't allow CCP to use their own servers for hosting,CCP bailed and went to Sony, which allowed CCP more latitude for updates that they wouldn't allow for any other company.

CCP's two biggest problems are that they were developing on outdated hardware that was coming to the end of it's cycle, and more importantly, they are totally incompetent in making a FPS with Dust 514 being their first attemp.

Honestly, with the Dust forums practically set ablaze to the degree that I've never seen any other forum,I wouldn't expect Project Legion to succeed either as many Dust players are now former Dust players with this news.
