Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare coming November 4, stars Kevin Spacey

Activision has revealed the next Call of Duty game ahead of schedule. It has Kevin Spacey. Being evil.

The planned Call of Duty reveal leaked early, so Activision thought: hey, why not just fess up and announce this year's game? Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is this year's game, and it'll be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 4th. (And PS3 and Xbox 360, according to Amazon.)

Sledgehammer Games is developing this year's entry, the first to take advantage of Activision's new three year development strategy for the series. As evidenced by the name, Advanced Warfare takes the series into the near-future yet again, with soldiers warring in mechanized suits.

According to Activision, "battlegrounds of the future" will change the series, as "technology and [tactics] have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise." But don't worry, the more things change, the more they stay the same--look at all those explosions!

Is Advanced better than Modern? Just how Advanced is it?

Just watched that... looks pretty good. That was a good trailer.

I'm not convinced it won't still just be a very similar game but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt at least until they show some gameplay.

I don't know why but I keep thinking about how the near future "advanced warfare" route was the exact route Ghost Recon went with.

Anyways, you tell me how the new setting (gears, weapons, toys and all) effects the multiplayer and then maybe I might consider returning to the series. Keep in mind that they had a near future "advanced warfare" game already and the setting didn't impact the multiplayer in the least bit.

BLOPS looked like maybe 5-10 years in the future, whereas this looks to be 40-50. Maybe that will allow the more futuristic stuff to come into MP. There were some attachments and such in BLOPS that were pretty futuristic but the weapons were just like renamed AK's.

Almost all of the guns in Black Ops 2 were real, whether prototypes or current guns that have been recently introduced. Even the Executioner was real, as crazy as that gun seems. (it's the pistol revolver that uses shotgun shells as ammo)

Yep. I was partial to the MP7 if memory serves. I hated it at first, but once I added the laser sight and I think rapid fire it was pretty insanely powerful.

I always used the AN94 because it was the closets thing to an AK (and the Sig 556 because it basically IS a Swiss-made AK in 5.56mm and tended to perform like the AK in game to a degree with the select fire attachment...the AN94 was a bit better because I didn't have to waste a slot on select fire).

Hey I think I saw a female soldier in the trailer! Granted she looked super model thin and wearing very form fitting armor/clothes and will likely get fridged but its a start.

Will wait for reviews before buying to see if there is any substance or if it is just a bunch of mindless explosions and flashy lights.

If they replaced the main character with the goat from Goat Simulator, I would be all over this.

Well I am the first to shit on cod anytime someone brings up how good they are at it. But this trailer has peaked my interest because it seems to show a new kinda cod game. One that is a little more cinematic and has moved beyond the confines of being a quake3 mod. High hopes low expectations.

Can we please, for the love of God, get some better writers working in the videogames industry?

Activision has been recruiting Hollywood action screenplay writers, particularly for the Call of Duty franchise. The "Modern Warfare" games were written or co-written by Jesse Stern (writer for CSI), the Black Ops games were co-written by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, the Christopher Nolan Batman movies, Blade), and the writer for CoD:Ghosts was Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana).

Us gamers should have realistic expectations about this: we're not going to get some award-worthy writing on the caliber of Brothers or Bioshock Infinite, because that's not Activision's goal. They're looking for spectacle, but mostly to be able to sell millions of copies, bring in a billion dollars of revenue, and once again proclaim "the biggest entertainment launch ever." Last year's release of Ghosts wasn't the biggest entertainment launch ever, and I don't anticipate CoD:AW being a record-breaker either.

I think I played it before. This can looks like Crysis and better than last parth of CoD.
