Next Call of Duty reveal coming Sunday morning

Activision has begun teasing the reveal of its next Call of Duty game, with the debut trailer set to come this Sunday morning.

23

The reveal for the next Call of Duty game is imminent. Activision has laid out plans to reveal the Sledgehammer-developed game on Sunday, with both a trailer and magazine coverage. Right now it's simply being called "a new era of Call of Duty."

A teaser site (via Polygon) is counting down to 10 AM ET on May 4. Meanwhile, Game Informer has already said that the next Call of Duty game will be the subject of its June cover story, so it is timing the digital release of its next issue to coincide with the trailer. That will probably provide more info than the trailer itself, but for now it has shared a single screenshot.

I'm not sure, I think they went to like 3 studios now so it might be Sledgehammer? Or maybe it's Treyarch... one of those two. IW did the last game.

Yea probably Sledgehammer since CoD went to a three-year cycle between studios. So what was it?

          2012: Treyarch's Black Ops
          2013: Infinity Ward's Ghosts
          2014: Sledgehammer's ??

I don't have a problem with iterative sequels but I do with annual sequels that don't add much. We are pretty much at a saturation point similar to what was going with WWII games five to ten years ago. Turning these series in to annualized-IP burns them out a lot sooner.

Sledgehammer made MW3. The cod new era site image looks like the MW3 case. Bet on MW4 or some kind of equivalent.

It'll be something heavily based on PMC and present/possible future.

I'm assuming that a Guitar Hero situation will happen, where they over-saturate the market with COD, until it completely tanks and they kill off the franchise.

They learnt their lesson and will stay at "saturation" for as long as possible.

That's pretty much how Guitar Hero went, until the wheels started falling off with World Tour, 5, Metallica, and Van Halen. Warriors of Rock got disappointing sales in 2010, and then Activision abruptly pulled the plug in February 2011. To be fair, Activision probably didn't want to be stuck manufacturing plastic guitars and licensing individual songs for much longer (and neither did EA or Harmonix; 2010 was also the last year of the main Rock Band games).

Activision essentially "tripled down" on Call of Duty by making Sledgehammer the third studio making a mainline game (along with Infinity Ward and Treyarch; is Raven still involved in supplemental Call of Duty development?), but they shut down the Elite service. Ghosts was also the first recent CoD release where Activision wasn't able to claim a "biggest entertainment launch ever".

I assume if no one buys it they would stop making it. I also assume that if sells extremely well they will keep making it. They have shareholders so they would be expected to do what's best for them.

hoping for immersive SP and co-op. the multi-only is starting to flop. they also need to have the titanfall style hacker purgatory where you can keep playing, but you only play against hackers.

I love how everyone who claims not to care, takes enough time out of their day to come here and post it. If COD is no longer your thing, or you never played it to begin with, fantastic, but why click on a news story that is "Next Call of Duty reveal coming Sunday"? COD comes out ever year, some people don't like that we all get it, but Activision pointed out that COD will be yearly, several years ago, so why complain about it every year? (It is not going away, first person shooters are fun)
