Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa has acquired From Software, developer of games like Dark Souls, Armored Core, and Otogi. According to Famitsu, the company purchased 80% of the developer from previous owners Trans Comos, and plans on making it a subsidiary of Kadokawa Games. The sale is expected to conclude on May 21st.

Kadokawa is best known as the publisher of manga and magazines, including Escaflowne and Evangelion. However, they're also responsible for a number of largely-for-Japan games, including Killer is Dead, Demon Gaze, and the upcoming Natural Doctrine. Given the success of Dark Souls worldwide, it's likely the acquisition of From will help Kadokawa broaden their global appeal.
