Tripwire Interactive is feeling generous today, in the wake of this week's Game of the Year update for multiplayer standalone expansion Rising Storm. To celebrate this release, the publisher is offering the full Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad game on Steam for free for today only.

This special deal was announced on Red Orchestra 2's Steam page. Anyone that downloads the full game from now until Thursday, April 24 at 10AM PDT can keep it in their Steam library forever. The main Steam listing adds that anyone who picks up Red Orchestra 2 will also receive limited rifle-only access to Rising Storm.

Speaking of Rising Storm, Tripwire will follow up this free Red Orchestra 2 promotion by offering a free weekend for the standalone expansion on Steam, starting on Thursday.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Actually you don't even have to download it. Just click the play game button on the store page, and it's registered to your Steam account. When you go back to the Store page, it says you own it. Hooray for free!
