A PC version of Final Fantasy III is in the works, the German USK ratings board has leaked. This follows Square Enix's official release of VII and VIII on the platform two years ago.

As Siliconera points out, it's likely the PC version is based off the Nintendo DS remake, which fully remastered the original NES game with 3D graphics. Eventually, the remaster headed to iOS, Android, PSP, and Ouya.

Here's what the iOS version looked like:

It was a good remake. I just understand the point of releasing it on PC. Of course if this leads to convincing SQENIX to hire Matrix to develop the remakes of 5 and 6, I'll support it with a purchase... but that's wishful thinking.

I've bought 3 a few times and this is exactly what's happened to me each time. Last time I even used a guide, but I still couldn't quite remember where I was since I didn't mark up the guide.

Plus, I just didn't care for the child-like 3d characters and the constant wiggling. Loving FFD though.

I wonder if all the other mobile FF remakes will follow. Doesn't matter really, at $16 a pop I'm unlikely to buy them again since I already have them on iOS. There's only so many times you can rebuy the same damn game before you have to draw the line.

Still, nice to see Square Enix giving the PC some love.
