Microsoft will begin rolling out the latest Xbox One update tonight. The April update will offer a number of new and refined features, including improvements to the friends interface and Kinect controls.

Major Nelson breaks down the major changes expected with the April update, many of which were tested by beta users throughout March:

  • Updated friend notifications to include when friends and favorites log in.

  • A game save progress bar to show save status and which games/apps are being updated.

  • Improved Kinect voice/motion controls, including new functionality to help reduce false positive gestures.

  • Controller and headset firmware to reduce static and connectivity.

  • Improved video quality for both the GameDVR and Blu-Ray player.

  • Silent reboots that will allow users to activate their console with voice commands following an update.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
