Crysis & Crysis 2 to be affected by GameSpy shutdown

GameSpy's online services will be shut down on May 31. Some publishers are actively finding a way to make their multiplayer games work. For example, older Battlefield games will continue operating, as will Arma. Developers like Capcom and Epic Games are planning workarounds. But, one franchise's legacy games will close its online doors come May 31: Crysis.

Multiplayer in both Crysis and Crysis 2 will shut down with GameSpy's client.

"The conclusion of online multiplayer support comes as a result of GameSpy Technology shutting down all their hosting services," Crytek said on its official forum (via PC Gamer). "GameSpy have been providing multiplayer functionality for Crysis and Crysis 2 since they launched. The single-player campaigns in both games are unaffected by this transition, and the multiplayer mode in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Crysis 2 remain playable."

Reddit has been keeping track of which games may be affected by the GameSpy shutdown. With a month and a half until the deadline, it's likely more publishers will say whether or not they have contingency plans in the coming weeks.

On the one hand I want to be upset, on the other I've never played either for MP.

I do remember that Crysis 2 had multiplayer DLC though which makes me think its kind of crappy of them to not add in steamworks or something.

Goodnight, sweet Crysis MP, and flights of awkward-to-steer VTOLs sing thee to thy rest.

Crysis 2 mp was a lot of fun back in the day. Doesn't C3 also use Gamespy?

I'd literally pay money to remove Crysis 2 from my steam account so it would no longer be the game with the longest hours on my profile. Stupid alt tabbing from a bad bad game and now 191 hours of that awful thing on my account as if I like it. Ugh.

OMG, I love this. I want them to auto-sort the games list by Time Played in Big Picture mode, so that it always pops up in front.

I warez'd Crysis 1, I purchased Crysis 2 to make up for - god DAMN I wish I could reverse that - I feel so bad about it.
          I skipped Crysis 3, because I played Crysis 2.

3 is waaaaay better than 2.
In terms of the linearity of the game, its something in between 1 and 2. But gameplay (and of graphics ofc) is way better.

It actually has a lot of great elements, but the basic combat in Crysis 1-3 is a miss for me in the way enemies attack you. They are super alert and attack often from out of visibility. That just leads to frustration for me whenever I forego stealth combat.
