The Age of Empires series is coming to mobile. "World Domination" will be free-to-play, and it will be available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone this summer.

The upcoming mobile game will feature over 100 "legendary heroes" to choose from, across history's "greatest civilizations," including the Vikings, Celts, Franks, and Huns. Players will use touch gestures to lead troops in a battle system that was created "just for mobile."

Interested players can pre-register on the official site. You can also check out this trailer:

If that footage if actual gameplay, then I don't have high hopes for this holding anyone's interest for long. Also suggests more of that craptastic spend real money to hurry production stuff. The term f2p needs to be fully replaced when it's really freemium.

They didn't learn anything from the last F2P game that they did on PC.

Transforming old games into f2p mobile game adaptations is like going to war on a tricycle.
And you would have to pay so the wheels won't lock, ofc.

I guess three makes a trend. This, Roller Coaster Tycoon 4 Mobile, and Dungeon Keeper.

This trend is a shoe-in for Giant Bomb's "PLEASE STOP" end-of-year category.

I really don't like the art direction they took. I'm probably gonna pass on this one. Also, I'm not huge on free to play, those games always turn into a chore for me.
