PlayStation is all about innovation. So while some competitors may attempt to increase resolution and framerate, Sony goes the other way. A new title update coming to Infamous: Second Son will give players the option to reduce the framerate.

A new 30 fps option will lock the framerate. Currently, the game renders with a variable framerate--something that Digital Foundry criticized. "While performance generally manages to stay north of 30fps, the resultant judder compromises the fluidity of the visuals and produces inconsistent controller response. With Second Son averaging around 35fps, the player receives little additional benefit as a result of this choice. By limiting the frame-rate to 30fps they could have delivered an open world game with a very consistent frame-rate and controller response," they noted.

Sucker Punch's Brian Fleming defended the unlocked framerate on PlayStation.Blog, saying "we prefer the unlocked frame rate, but we recognize that some players find it distressing."

Other new options coming to the game is the ability to turn the HUD off--particularly helpful if you're taking screenshots #PS4Share. You'll also be able to change the time of day at whim (once you beat the game). This should help you make even more gorgeous screenshots #PS4Share.

      Changing the time of say will be neat.

      Anyone manage to get that paper conduit stuff working? Mine's always jacked up when it attempts to save. Hopefully that will get fixed.

          I stand corrected.I thought it was still not working.

          Maybe I'll try to log in and try to play it tonight.

        The paper trail works fine for me. Just make sure you go to the site and register and link it to your psn account. It's a pretty cool little side quest too! I'm about half way through part 2 at the moment!

      I still can't understand that with all of the bragging of how powerful the new consoles are, neither of them seem to be able to run games consistently at 60 fps.Personally,I would rather have higher framerate than fancy textures, but that's just me.

      Anyway,at least the changing of time of day gives me reason to play this game some more.I loved the game, but it was kind of easy and more content of any kind is a plus.

      @ThomW

      I can't get the Paper Trail missions to work either.I don't think it's working for anyone.Wish SP would do something to fix this soon.

        I saw someone post that you need to register at the Infamous website and link it to your Sony account for it to work properly. I had always been getting a 'could not connect' message when trying the mailbox, so I registered last night (but didn't get a chance to try again to see if it really fixes it).

        As far as framerate goes, I chalk it up to being a launch game. Think of how shitty PS3 launch games looked compared to things like Last Of Us/GTAV/etc. later in the cycle

          Whatever they do to link it together frequently stops working, just one of those things to try again later.

        I dunno, it seems to be a pretty solid 60 for me?

          I've had some framerate hitches, usually related to shit hitting the fan from a physics standpoint (blowing up checkpoints, using the nuke powers, etc).

      This was another example where the loud minority on NeoGAF messed up games for the rest of us. So many people freak out about 1080p/60fps that producers will un-cap their framerates to get higher numbers, even if it degrades the overall experience.

        Really because i think those that want the frame rate locked are the loud minority. Pc gamer for more then a decade the 40-60 fps never has bothered me.
