DVR controls & universal remote coming to Xbox One SmartGlass

Microsoft continues to give gamers what they want with Xbox One system updates--like "an enhanced TV watching experience."

Microsoft continues to give gamers what they want with Xbox One system updates--like "an enhanced TV watching experience." A new update due later this year will give Xbox One owners "more control over Xbox One, their TV, and set-top box... all from a tablet or smartphone." That's synergy!

By using Xbox SmartGlass, you'll be able to set new DVR recordings and watch recorded content. OneGuide is also coming to SmartGlass, letting users see a combined listing of live TV and VOD content.

These features will be available to "select Xbox Live members" via invite only according to Xbox Wire. Once Microsoft gets feedback, they'll be launched officially later this year.

        It's interesting to see the wide range of use cases with the Xbox One. I don't see a reason to run my TV through the Xbox One and I prefer the Apple TV for streaming, so I'm turning it on exclusively for games.

        But yeah, booting directly to TV is an obviously needed feature, I don't know why they've neglected to add that in.

      I hope they include proper remote support. I'd like to know that Harmony can work with it. Same goes for the PS4, both of which are ghetto when it comes to remote controls right now.

        My Harmony works great for turning it on and off, but I don't think I can navigate around with it. I thought I had read that Microsoft was working closely with Logitech on this, so I need to make sure I have the latest drivers.

          I've been able to navigate around since day one. Getting the guide to come up is a bit weird since the action is named something strange, but other than that it's fine.

          because sometimes you want to do things and don't have the remote handy? And hey, while we are at it what is up with giving people choices? People should only like what I do anyway.

        My Harmony remote can control the Xbox One. The PS4 doesn't work with it yet though.

      So does this mean the Xbox will be able to handle a DVR that can, you know, rewind and fast forward without freezing and hitching?

      I had to plug my cable box back into my tv due to crazy freezing issues that still aren't officially being addressed in the support forums.

      If Xbox One was a Windows Media Center Extender I would own one and be happy about this kind of thing.

      It's not, so I don't even own one.
