Sonic Lost World crossing over with Nintendo worlds makes a certain amount of sense. The first crossover, with Yoshi's Island, seemed like a particularly good fit since that series is also about cute anthropomorphic animals. Today Sega announced the second Nintendo crossover, a seemingly more awkward pairing with The Legend of Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda Zone will be available for free on Wii U starting March 27, IGN reports. It dresses Sonic up in Link's green tunic, and sets him out on an adventure complete with an open Hyrule Field and more directed Zelda-style dungeons. It's blending several different Zelda games together, featuring the Stalfos style from Ocarina of Time and the Loftwing from Skyward Sword. The rupees found in the dungeons convert to animals once you clear the stage, to feed back into the main campaign's unlocks system. Sonic even gets a heart meter to replace his usual ring-based health.
