Guild Wars 2 gets account-wide Wardrobe update on April 15

Guild Wars 2 is preparing to debut an all-new Wardrobe system on April 15, which will allow players to share their skins and outfits across all of the characters on a single account.

Now that the wicked Scarlet Briar has been dealt with, Guild Wars 2 is taking a slight breather from its heavy narrative. And what better way to catch your breath than with some fashion therapy? A new video shows off the MMORPG's upcoming Wardrobe system, which is set to make its debut on April 15 and allow players to share their outfits across all of their characters on a single account.

"For the Wardrobe, we've changed skins to an account-wide unlock system," said programmer Ryan Diederich on the Guild Wars 2 website. "Skins can be unlocked by using consumables, equipping items, salvaging equipment, or right-clicking on equipment and account-binding it. Items that you acquire that are already bound to your account automatically unlock their skin when they go into your inventory. Unlocked skins can be applied to items infinitely (for just one Transmutation Charge), which makes it much less stressful to try out a new look for your character, since you can always switch back!"

Players looking to match up outfits with certain weapons will be able to preview their looks through an updated UI system. Transmutation has been streamlined, with transmutation items able to converted directly into Transmutation Charges without any additional items required. The game's dye system has also been updated to be make dyes available across entire accounts and not restricted to a single character.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I like the feature, but it's far too late for me, I've tried to return to GW2 several times and it still feels "meh".. which is a shame, because I think it could've been a truly amazing game if they focused on endgame a bit more.

I've said this in other threads, but I wanted so badly to love GW2, given how many hours I put into GW1, but it's missing something, and I can't place my finger on it. It's such a gorgeous world though, and I really do just want to run around it, especially the cities like Divinity's Reach.

I was telling exactly the same thing to my friends last week. I still look each day for the new features, but this game need some mojo.

Well, I never played any other MMO, actually. GW1 & GW2 were it. I guess if anything, I'm not the target audience for such a game. Though GW1 was psuedo-MMO, you could easily play 90% of the content solo, and I found GW2 too difficult to solo, especially in the high-level areas, unless you group up. The respawning of monsters also really annoys me. I don't get that sense of accomplishment of clearing an area. Hell, sometimes I can't kill fast enough to wipe out a single mob before they start respawning. This being an MMO, I suppose that's unavoidable.

Guild Wars felt more intimate and more tactical. The combat system in particular held much greater depth, with skills acting more like cards that you build like a deck.

I don't play MMOs much, but the major problem with GW2 for me was that it was just so vastly different from GW1. I loved the cooperative missions in the original, I also didn't really care that areas were instanced because they were carefully designed with the player numbers in mind. Designers could focus more on difficulty when they knew how many players were going to be involved. In GW2 it's like a zerg of people where you are practically just a face in the crowd who runs around picking up the people who got knocked down.

I'll admit that GW1 had this uneasy reliance on healers, but when they allowed you to take heroes you could go quite far with just 2 or 3 real people. Not to mention skill capture, selection of skills, death penalty, gwen, pre-searing and all the other stuff I loved

GW1 holds a very special place in my heart and GW2 is one of the most disappointing games I've purchased. I should have cancelled my preorder after the beta weekends, barely spent more than 20 hours with the full game after release.

The one thing I really miss about GW1 is the dual class setup as it made for some interesting combinations.

Nah, there's other MMOs that I find far more entertaining. For me, GW2's biggest issue is the scaling thing. I *like* getting strong and overpowering enemies as I advance, but their scaling shit made it so every fight is a struggle and takes, IMO, far too long for how frequent combat is.

That and applying level scaling in only one direction (if I get bored at high levels, I can go do lowbie content, but if I'm tired of a low level zone, I just have to grin and bear it because I can't go to the next area and just have things scaled down).

Oh yes, scaling! I hate that. It's like Diablo 3, where sometimes I just want to go on Normal and one-shot an entire room for shits & giggles.

Same here. The game has no soul like GW1 did. NO reason for me to play. Its just gonna waste my time. I rather play my purchase steam games that I haven't played yet.

Ahh.. GW2, the game that taught me that the infamous "Holy Trinity" is still better than any of the alternatives.

Yeah same here. I was so hopeful that GW2 would change things up but the combat is just really boring

The trinity was even more boring. Spamming two or three skills over and over and standing in place vs. switching weapons and skills in the middle of the fight to adapt to a situation.

          Not really a comparison.

Why not have both... I will say combat in GW2 was fun while leveling up until about lvl 20 when you already unlocked every single skill you will have in the entire game.. at that point you have nothing to work towards. End game GW2 is horrible which is when I stopped after making myself grind to max level.

Well, everything to level 80 in the open world is easy, not counting world bosses. If you really want to experience GW2 PvE combat, you need to do explorable dungeons and higher level fractals. Everything else is child's play. :)

yeah, I agree. A friend and I had a lot of fun exploring in GW2. Unfortunately we couldn't do dungeons ourselves, because without fail any group we joined couldn't care less about taking their time and enjoying the experience.

              I know it's not what you're looking for, but . . . Unlockable Traits
              https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/traits-unleashed-forty-new-traits-and-more/

"Major traits will now be unlocked via traits guides, a new in-game item. Double-clicking on a trait guide will unlock its associated trait. You can find trait guides by completing specific content in the world, like story dungeons, minidungeons, WvW, personal story, specific bosses, and discovering certain areas on the world map. As excited as we are to let players earn traits with feats of bravery and cunning, we know not everyone is the exploring or adventure type—which is why we’ve included the option for you to buy trait guides from profession trainers! The cost of current traits varies based on the tier of that trait. Newly added traits to the game will be set at a higher price point."
