League of Legends & Game of Thrones to get official mash-up trailer

League of Legends is coming to HBO. Sort of. A new partnership between developer Riot Games and the subscription cable network will result in a mash-up trailer starring characters from the MOBA and Game of Thrones. How quaint.

Riot Games VP Dustin Beck explained that there is a "great overlap" between LoL players and people that watch GoT. "This was a good way to explore reaching that demographic through new media," he told [a]listdaily (via The Escapist).

Beck explained that the partnership will ultimately result in a mash-up trailer. "They're going to be getting some marketing assets, whether that's logo bugs or Website takeovers," he said. "But we're also working with their team to produce a mash-up trailer. They're giving us some exclusive sneak peaks into footage that hasn't been seen before."

If there was never any indication that Riot has run out of ideas on how to spend their millions, it's here now.

HBO was a sponsor of LCS this week. I'm guessing this isn't as simple as Riot spending cash to market to GoT viewers.
