Surprise! Blizzard has finally confirmed it is working on an Xbox One version of Diablo 3, months after it appeared at retail. However, in a bizarre twist, while Blizzard can confirm development, they can't actually confirm if the game will actually come out.

"I don't know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can't really comment on what that contract looks like," lead producer Alex Mayberry explained to VideoGamer. "The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run."

Blizzard's odd, not-very-exclusive agreement with Sony may have something to do with Mayberry's silence. The PS3 version of Diablo was announced months before the Xbox 360 version, and included extra content not found on Microsoft's platform. Regardless, the two versions did ship at the same time. It's likely Blizzard is following the same practice with the next-gen release.

I don't find this that Bizarre. Blizzard has done this a couple of times in the past where they talked about something they were working on and then cancelled it because it just wasn't fun enough.

Warcraft Adventures and StarCraft Ghost are the two I'm thinking of. Have there been others?

And in another bizarre twist, the XB1 version will reintroduce the Auction House!

        Heh, there's our "always-on console + always-on game" joke.

They sort of let that slip in the Chili pepper video they did last week.

PS3 had it, I don't see why the other consoles wouldn't.

It has, the Xbox 360 version does too.

The PS4 version of Diablo 3/Reaper of Souls also has it.

I wish they'd add controller support and couch co-op to the PC version.
