Titanfall is about to look a whole lot prettier on PC. Nvidia has announced that they'll be working with Respawn on a number of upcoming visual improvements for the game's PC version. Among the items on the agenda: temporal anti-aliasing, SLI multi-GPU support, and 4k resolution for high-end monitors.

"We are working towards implementing several NVIDIA GameWorks technologies that can make Titanfall look and play even better, including TXAA [temporal anti-aliasing] for high quality anti-aliasing and HBAO+ [Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion+] technologies for improved shadow details," Respawn's Vince Zampella told the Nvidia blog (via PC Gamer). "We will also be working towards updates for SLI and 4k support to ensure a fantastic high end PC experience."

There is no target timetable as to when any of these additions will make it into Titanfall's PC version.

While Respawn looks into improving the visual quality of Titanfall's PC iteration, the developer has just issued the game's first patch. Check out the full list of changes here.

I don't like vendor specific visual stuff :( However, it runs, and looks, amazing on my AMD 7970 :) I hope they unlock the 60fps limit soon!

Get a 120hz or 144hz monitor and you can get 120/144 fps with vsync.

      • reply
        March 22, 2014 5:07 PM

Enable vsync in-game, and disable it in the nvidia control panel. Now your fps can fluctuate between xy and your monitor refresh. Now enjoy unpredictable aiming because sensitivity is tied to framerate for some reason.

Wait, it might be the opposite of this. Either way, it's a strange fix, and kinda bad when your fps fluctuates.

yeah "Respawn Entertainment, the game's developer, claims the uncompressed audio was included for the benefit of slower PCs. "A two-core machine would dedicate a huge chunk of one core to just decompressing audio," says Richard Baker, Respawn's Lead Engineer. "We couldn't dedicate those resources to audio." The Xbox One decodes audio in hardware, so it has no such limitation."

So they couldn't do what everyone else does? I understand the reason for their choice, but to say it couldn't be done otherwise is strange, and probably untrue.

Is that accurate? From what I recall PC's have never had too much trouble decoding MP3 audio. I remember doing it on a Pentium 200MMX and Winamp had little difficulty with it--I could still use other software and play games no problem.

Yah I don't buy it!! Yah I used Winamp and did other stuff including games on my Pentium MMX 150Mhz here. Decoding compressed audio isn't very taxing.

I'd like to see an improvement in performance. a 2600k and 770 should be good enough on lower settings but I still get some slowdown. I'm being picky, but it runs decent enough on the highest settings.. I'd expect to get butter smooth on the low.

Yeah, it's ever so slightly choppy on my 770 gtx and turning the settings down didn't improve it. A little annoying in a game that moves so quickly.

Yeah, everything on low here and I get sub-30FPS pretty frequently. i7 860 @ 4.0GHz, 8GB RAM, GTX 570. I know the 570's getting long in the tooth (I'm waiting for the 8xx cards to upgrade), but I expect everything on low to result in better performance than that. BF4 with almost everything on medium or high runs a lot better.

A 770 should be more than enough for Titanfall. I play with a 770 and an i5 4670k, everything on high including insane textures and 2xMSAA with constant 60fps and the GPU utilization sits around 60-80%.

The matchmaking only aspect has made it lose a bit of steam for me already. It's not fun getting paired up against random people of random skill every time, whether you have a full group or not. It'd be fine if there were other options but right now there isn't, and it sucks because right now is when most of the people around here are playing because it's new. Can't say how many folks will still be interested and playing when and if they ever get around to adding private matches.

Maybe if there was some skill based matchmaking going on things would be different, there's no reason I should have an 80% win record when I feel I'm not good at the game and have tons of room to improve. There's gotta be some guys out there with +90% if I can manage 80, and that's crazy. It's hard to get better and enjoy the learning curve until you start playing against better people. It's also harder to be challenged and nearly impossible to come away satisfied from a string of slaughters too. Very few games are actually close and exciting, because the matchmaking is super random. I've never had this problem in other party based shooters before. I want to stop playing for a while and come back to fight people who are great at the game because they'd have put in the time, or they're the only ones still remaining.

I was excited to play it when it was new and couldn't stop and now it's when friends are around and ask or invite me to play. Maybe I'll try to organize a real shackbattle this week if no one else will and see if matching 2 separate groups together is even possible.

Two full parties on the same data center searching for Variety Pack at the same time I bet would have the highest chance of success at matching up.

Yes but if you know that many other people like it then why do you think people won't play it for a long time? It's like you think you are the only customer or something? But you seem to admit you know other people really like it. So I don't understand why you are writing the things you are writing.

*shrug* I simply meant a lot of people here like it, but that might be sample bias. Who knows. I find myself falling into the the same old trap of not understanding what other people see in something I'm less than impressed with.

Yeah I get that you don't like it and that your are confused why other people like it. What I don't get is why you think people won't play it in the future even though you recognize other people like it.

I mean I don't personally like Barbie dolls and I don't understand why kids think they are interesting, but I don't think Barbie dolls are going to be gone in a year just because I don't like them.

I currently feel the same way. I've only played enough to reach level 13 but thus far I don't like the game. The first online shooter I played was Starsiege: Tribes back in 1999 and since then I compare every online shooter to the Tribes series, and to me even the worst Tribes game is more fun than Titanfall :/ Maybe I'll keep trying but I never liked the modern Call of Duty multiplayer and this feels similar despite the addition of titans and wall running.

I share the same problem of having started out with Tribes 1 as my first real foray into online FPS. That series just set the bar so damn high. Really wish Tribes: Ascend had been positioned to receive the kind of attention that CoD, BF, and now Titanfall seem to get.

I think Xbox One, and Titanfall in particular, murdered Visceral Monkey's wife and first born.

I don't know if it's a product of coming in hot on 30 , thus when I spent my formative years, or the kind of person I am, but when I see someone repeatedly targeting something for what seems like arbitrary attacks I don't think "troll"

I only hope that they allow you to ramp up the visuals on pc or you can force some major tweaks. Otherwise, I would be a whole lot more disappointed with the consoles than I am. But I do like the kind of games that get made for both the playstation and xbox, though.
