Rumor: 'Assassin's Creed Unity' takes place during French Revolution

A set of leaked screenshots and accompanying information may have leaked details for the next Assassin's Creed game. Reportedly called Unity, it takes place during the French Revolution.

Leaked screenshots may have outed this year's Assassin's Creed game. Reportedly titled (or code-named) Assassin's Creed Unity, it is set in 18th-century Paris during the French Revolution. According to the supposed leak, this is said to be just one of two Assassin's Creed games set for release this year.

Kotaku reports that Unity will be targeted specifically for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, while a second project ("Comet") will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. One or both are also said to be coming to PC. An anonymous source provided screenshots that show Parisian landmarks like Notre Dame and the Seine River. They also show new "Parkour Up" and "Parkour Down" commands, assigned to the A and B buttons, respectively.

If legitimate, this would align with earlier rumors that Unity would be set against the French Revolution and star a new assassin named Arno. Producer Jade Raymond told AdWeek last month that her game was to be set in her favorite historical era.

If it's the best I'm not sure I want to play any more, the pirate stuff was pretty cool... but the stealth eavesdropping and follow missions sucked donkey balls.

AC4, Brotherhood and AC2 were all fantastic games. Revelations and 3 were OK, with the first being a decent foundation but bit of a let down.

They may not be consistent with their quality but more often than not they deliver something worth playing.

They've actually done a pretty good job keeping it fresh. The only game I thought was unnecessary was Revelations. Story was decent, but the gameplay was like all the other Ezio ones.

I'm actually really excited by the 'parkour up' and 'parkour down' buttons. The franchise has always been good at letting you scale up shit, but if you need to get down quickly it's either jumping into hay or awkwardly cannonballing into the dirt. Hopefully it will make the traversal a bit more tactical and less of a 'press one button and forward on the stick' thing.

I was so skeptical of the Renaissance period but they handled it beautifully. The American Revolution was decent enough and fresh. The Caribbean was just epic.

this seemed like a natural followup for the American Revolution. Could have a few of the same characters etc. Bit weird with a pirate game stuck in the middle, but I don't hear anyone complaining about that
