Square Enix is giving players an extensive look into the upcoming 2.2 patch for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, titled 'Through the Maelstrom.' In addition to offering a look at some of the battles ahead, the eight-minute video also takes a glimpse into some of the patch's other notable features, including new areas, cosmetic items and glamours, gardening, and side-quests.

'Through the Maelstrom' centers around the Warriors of Light further attempting to stave off the Ascians, who threaten to unleash a new primal on the land. Side-quests follow the oddball Hildibrand and his catty sidekick, Nashu, as they search for a mysterious warrior, while also challenging players to track down the powerful Gilgamesh and defeat the formidable warrior in combat. Those looking for an even more intense challenge will also want to check out the Second Coil of Bahamut labyrinth.

There's a lot to soak in, so take a seat and watch through the full video below. Final Fantasy XIV's 2.2 patch is set to deploy on March 27 on PC and PS3.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

My wife and I just cancelled our accounts to this game after 4 months as it is just too hard. The main story is tied to boss battles that require you and everyone in your group to make absolutely no mistakes so it is almost impossible to get past them with pick up groups (and my wife and I don't do Guilds until end-game). We both made it all the way to Garuda at level 44 and hit a brick wall.

That's good to know, but disappointing. Have you tried Diablo 3? It's pretty great coop fun. Doesn't really fill the mmo void, but it's a good game.

What? I did everything solo and with duty finder groups _ if anything the game is too easy till hardmode and endgame.

And to mo13, I find it highly unlikely that you were that lucky, because we have tried Duty Finder groups many many times and it is a complete joke. Some of the guys didn't even know what Limit Breaks were or how to use them.

Actually, we are going to give Diablo 3 another shot now that they have unclusterf_cked it.

We were going to try Elder Scrolls Online, but they are screwing up that game left and right with stupid decisions being made two weeks before launch to the beginning sections of the game that really turn us off of it.

It's not that they are changing the beginning of the game randomly. People that beta tested the game and gave feedback found the starting zone to not work out. So they are listening to their feedback and redesigning the start. I think its a nice move.

It wasn't the Beta people complaining. I am one and there are tons of complaints about this change in the Beta forums (20 pages worth). The people who complained were a few whiney Youtube channel owners that don't know jack shit about game design.
