Trent Reznor & Doom

all i can do is laugh at all of this shit...

all you guys that want Bobby Prince to do the music--keep Reznor the hell away from DOOM? you think Bobby Prince is the best musician for DOOM and blah blah blah the fucking blah?

okay, for an example, lets look at a couple of the tracks in DOOM II:
d_shawn -- MAP07 -- Slayer, South of Heaven -- South of Heaven
d_romero -- MAP18 -- Pantera, Vulgar Display of Power -- This Love
d_ampie -- MAP23 -- Alice in Chains, Dust -- Them Bones

this is just a short example of the REAL music in DOOM and DOOM II. Bobby Prince may have put the music in there, but he sure in the fuck did NOT write it, at least not ALL of it.

there is more to add to the list above of tracks, i just haven't had time to dissect the entire soundtracks of DOOM and DOOM II.

people are entitled to their opinion on music, but you think that 'so-and-so sucks cause you're being duped, blah blah blah, memorex, blah blah blah DAT tapes, blah blah blah' -- well, hate to burst your bubble--but unlike Bobby Prince doing the music for DOOM, at least we can be assured that Reznor will do original music, and not rip it from the music that was out 'at the time' as Bobby Prince did. Oh hell, lets all just re-install all of our old ISA soundblaster cards with the 'true FM' chip, cause all these piece of shit new cards do it in software -- 'WE ARE BEING DUPED'. please... Reznor has to use DAT on stage--even though the other four musicians playing stuff live are usually playing multiple instruments, with all the stuff in his music, it would take about twenty times the amount of people on stage to recreate it. the drums? sorry, they're real. the guitars? the live stuff is real. the front vocals? quite real. everything else is sequenced to hell, and would require a hell of a lot more effort than your average 'normal' band could produce, let alone an entire orchestra of synthesizers and effects processors.

oh, is that what you guys want? DOOM to be like it was? just random songs from random bands at the time, like Slayer, Pantera, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden? well sheesh -- get Bobby Prince to do it today, and I think all we'll get are songs by Britney Spears, Limp Bizkit, Blink 182, whoever else is on the radio, blah blah blah.

Live NIN owns everything. I'm sure anyone who has seen them live agrees.

I'd like to see some dynamic music for the next DooM. It should change/blend correctly as situations become more suspensful/scary/whatever.

Just imagine the tempo increasing as your health goes down...that would be intense.

Trent Reznor is just Quake nOstalgia.

His involvement with Doom will only increase the hype and therfore take away from the new/ground-breakingness that DOOM3 is expected to be.

But that's just my take on the subject.

Wonder why no one ever questions Trent Reznor about how 90% of the live show is coming straight from several dat machines. NOT LIVE, Memorex. Guess all you Reznor losers are too busy thinking he is some musical god, rather then wondering about how you are getting duped at his shows.

Guess since it is not 100% live it gives him more time to destroy keyboards and such on stage. After all that's why a lot of people go see him live. Packaged rebellion.

Fah, the Q3 soundtrack was pretty good, and as a fan of FLA, I really dug the 6 bill leeb tracks. however, for spookiness, the Q1 soundtrack was downright kickass. The whispers track is superior.

If styled like her work on Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Shirley Walker could do an excellent score for Doom 3. I haven't heard much of her music, but what I have heard is very good.

If I had my way, though, every single thing in existance that required a score would be done by John Williams. =)

i thought i read somewhere that trent is also doing music for that alice game too. what a great gig, doing game music. he must have a blast doing it, plus probly gets mad loot on top of that.

Hi...I thought the soundtrack for quake 1 was great, sure it wasn't "music", it was just alot of ambience, but it fit the mood perfectly in a dark and gloomy world. Quake 2 was just blah, it was good music i guess but didnt fit quake 2 at all. Some people dont like NIN here, but theres always going to be someone to dislike a certain band and that type of music, so no complaints here. Im glad Trent is doing the soundtrack for doom, i need a scary and ambient feel, not some hard rock techno smackdown :) But thats my opinion, so gl to doom3 (or whatever its going to be called)

I think all the music in Doom should be that techno dance song from the movie "Blade".

And it should be really loud and you cant turn it off even when you exit Doom. :D

I don't care what anyone says, NIN is perfect for the whole creepy atmospheric thing. Trent has plenty of experience with(good quality) scoring, too. Just look what he did with Lost Highway. That was the PERFECT movie score, as far as I'm concerned.
If it wasn't Trent, though, I'd probably go for the Dust Brothers, Meat Beat Manifesto(maybe not dark enough) or just some good heavy techstep drum'n'bass.

But i think it's right not to choose q2 like music, because q2 was more an science-fiction action game than a horror-action game like doom. but i don't agree with nin, i think dust brothers are too slow. perhaps dkay.com or marilyn manson. i would prefer manson.

The Doom soundtrack should consist of "Filter - Take My Picture"

I hated the q1 soundtrack. Not enough music, just ambiance. Q2 was better, had some pretty cool guitar riffage. I woulda prefered it heavier, but I'm just obsessed with distortion.

Maybe Reznor here will do a better job. Please, not too much techno, and less 'random sounds effects.'
