Dark Souls 2 launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 earlier this week, to the excitement of many within the Shacknews community. To help commemorate the launch, producer Tak Miyazoe recently spoke out about various aspects of the game, including answering some of Chatty's questions about the game's difficulty, online system, and the upcoming PC version.

Miyazoe emphasizes that the development team had Dark Souls 2's PC version in mind from the beginning, designing it to be a good Dark Souls experience across all platforms.

"We apologize for the delay, but we did spend time working on the PC version, making sure that we do attend to higher resolutions, higher framerates, and also keyboard mapping most controls," Miyazoe told GamerHub TV.

Miyazoe also adds that Dark Souls 2's server-based system for online play leaves open the possibility for world events. However, the development has not planned those out at this time, first wanting players to enjoy the online system as it is currently constituted.

"One of the main reasons why we wanted to re-visit the game server system was for that added level of role-playing in the online world, itself," Miyazoe added. "The Covenants have been improved. The new game servers, based on the beta we had last year, we noticed that there's a lot of online activity, a lot of players leaving blood messages, a lot of ghosts being seen. It obviously adds a new level to the online system itself."

Dark Souls 2 will hit PC on April 25.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

That's comforting, hearing about the PC. I bought the first one for PC last night and spent a longer time getting it ready to play than actually playing it.

Hearing usernames in a video sounds weird (even though I hear it during games themselves). Would've been funny if they emphasized the words, like "Oh Snap! High five asks..."

Whenever a developer says this I never believe them.

I can believe it - like if the dev studio wants to do a pc version, but the publisher won't fund it until the console version is done or even launched and reaches some measure of success. Doesn't mean the dev wouldn't at least build out assets that can be used on the pc. Might take a bit more time to build stuff, but better to take that cost up front and not have to rebuild stuff again later just for the pc.

It means they used PCs to write code on.

I thought all game programming was done like the hacking in Swordfish these days. On consoles, obviously.

I really like these videos lately where the devs get asked questions explicitly from the Chatty. These are a really good direction for things around here.

I wonder will they ever fix Dark Souls 1 that it doesn't use that abomination of a drm called GFWL.

It will be fun in a few months when Dark Souls can't even be played anymore.

I suppose this sequel uses Steam drm?
