Leak: PlayStation Now games may cost $5-6

An image on the Gaikai site shows what could be the pricing model for PlayStation Now games.

An image promoting the upcoming PlayStation Now service may have given us a better idea of what to expect from its pricing structure. If the prices turn out as shown on the image, we may see streaming PS3 games going for as little as $4.99.

The prices come from an image on the official Gaikai (via VG247) site. In the last slide, which touts the service being used as the backbone for PlayStation Now, we can see prices attached to a few games. Uncharted 3 is listed at $4.99 while Far Cry 3 is listed at $5.99. Each price is marked with a blue triangle that looks markedly different than the PlayStation Plus logo, which also offers special pricing in a similar fashion.

These could be simple placeholder prices, of course, but it may give us a better idea of the ballpark Sony is aiming for. Each price says "Full Game" next to it, so presumably these aren't rental prices. Shacknews has contacted Sony and will update as more information becomes available.

Our impressions of PS Now have been fairly positive so far. The beta began rolling out in January.

Well, that's one way to curb second hand sales old games.

Steam seems to indicate that it works over the long term. Why wouldn't the major consoles embrace it?

I think that was Microsoft original plan with the Xbox One but we like to trade our games in.

I'm not a Sony fanboy by a long shot, but I wont believe for a second that MS would ever embrace Steam-like sales.

They've been doing exactly that for the past several months on the 360. It hasn't been via huge monolithic sales like the Steam sales, but they've been lowering prices dramatically for short periods of time on many games.

My digital collection has grown by leaps and bounds because they've been offering good games (and yes, many of them have been fairly recent games) for under $10.

Some of my purchases: Dark Souls ($5.45), FF13-2 ($6.49), Bastion ($2.99), Witcher 2 ($9.99), and a number of older titles for <$5.

Will they bring sales like that to the 'bone? Time will tell.

yeah, we've been grabbing random games at the $5-10 mark. hard to notice it's happening, as there's not much awareness!

Rise was already on sale for $40 on the One.

If those prices are correct,or even close, this will be a HUGE win for Sony.

I'm willing to give it a go. I missed out on so many titles by not owning a PS3 of my own.

Wow,I guess most people that are against streaming games either don't trust that the host servers are good enough,or you guys must have shitty internets.

If the servers are quality, then there shouldn't be an issue if you are running at least decent download speeds.

I can't see what Sony's end game is here. Why are they steering people away from their $400 console?

I'm still hoping for a Netflix sub model. Not at $9 mind you but something that provides more access.

      Maybe a Platinum Plus tier?

Sounds like a good idea but when you include the need for data allowances and speeds that can support it, Internet downtime, and other people using the net at home a game on disc or as a digital download for under $20 seems like a much better option.
