Dark Souls 2 PC system requirements revealed

Dark Souls 2 will make its long-awaited arrival on Xbox 360 and PS3 next week. However, PC players will have to wait a little while longer, as they wait for an April 25 release date. The slight delay does offer up some time to make sure your PC setup is up to snuff, since Namco Bandai just released the Dark Souls 2 PC requirements.

Namco Bandai (via Polygon) offers the following:

Minimum requirements:

  • Windows XP SP3, Vista SP2, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8

  • NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT or ATI Radeon HD 5870 with DirectX 9.0c graphics

  • AMD Phenom II X2 555 3.2 GHz or Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo E8500 3.17 GHz CPU

  • 2GB Memory

  • 14GB of HDD/SSD space

Recommended requirements:

  • Windows 7 SP1

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 or higher, ATI Radeon HD 6870 graphics with DirectX 9.0c or higher

  • Intel Core i3 2100 3.10 GHz or AMD A8 3870K 3.0 GHz

  • 4GB Memory or more

  • 14GB of HDD/SSD space

The above specs should hopefully lead to a better PC experience than the first Dark Souls, with no fan mods required.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Those requirements are pretty damn low... no offense dude, but it might be time to upgrade.

I have a Radeon HD 5850. It handles just about everything short of Battlefield fine so no real incentive to upgrade.

A 5850 is like... 20% faster than the GTX 465 in the recommended spec.

Yeah, but how can you possibly know if it's that much faster in the actual game. It's really amazing how sophisticated console hardware is that it can keep up with these new releases far beyond it's contemporary PC parts.

It's not that sophisticated at all, it just has the advantage of being a fixed target that developers can optimize for.

Just stick to UT2k4 and TF2. I'm sure there'll be more Shackbattles in the future, however far between they might be.

I thought you were serious about this whole gaming thing. Might as well give up and buy a console.

Recommended are pretty low end! This better not be locked at 30 fps on release.

I like how the 5870 in the minimum spec is faster than either card in the recommended specs.

Hm. Looks like my GTX 460 might finally need to be upgraded.

The 460 was, for all intents and purposes, just as fast as the gtx 465 in gaming.
