Lego The Hobbit trailer just needs one last big score

A new trailer for Lego The Hobbit poses it as a swanky heist flick.

The Hobbit is a classic tale of 14 people getting together for the biggest score in Middle-Earth history. Peter Jackson's movies pay it all the reverence of the original Lord of the Rings saga, but Lego The Hobbit is unshackled from that legacy and can treat it like what it most obviously sounds like: a heist flick.

A new "Buddy Up" trailer might as well be called Oakenshield's Thirteen, as it dresses up the various dwarves and their burglar in the neon colors and jazz-funk riffs common to the genre. It's a cute take-off on the concept, and we can only hope this tone at least makes a quick appearance in the actual game. It's due on April 8.

I've heard that the plan is to release the third movie as DLC. Regardless, Lego Indiana Jones 2 didn't recycle the levels from the first two three movies; they were redone with a markedly less serious bent.

Assuming they did the same with a Hobbit sequel, they would be complementary rather than overlapping.
