Screen Gems, a Sony Pictures company, has signed on to distribute a live action movie adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us. Creative director Neil Druckmann will write the script for the film. The movie will be produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures.

"When I saw the quality of the storytelling, I knew the audience for this project was far greater than just the gaming community and that Neil Druckmann must write the screenplay,” Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper told Deadline.

Naughty Dog co-president Nathan Wells says the company has been shopping the game to movie studios ever since its release last year. "But we couldn't have found better partners who share our creative vision and high standards," he told the site.

Screen Gems is, as Superannuation points out, not known for big-budget fare outside of their Resident Evil films. "Screen Gems, however, is definitely not known for securing top-tier directing talent, so don't, uh, set your expectations too high."
