The next expansion for Call of Duty: Ghosts is Devastation, Activision announced today. It's set to launch on April 3 for Xbox systems, followed sometime later on others. It will pack four maps, a new two-in-one weapon, and the second episode of the four-part "Extinction" story that began in the Onslaught DLC.

It will cost $14.99 if you buy it separately from the Season Pass. However, if you are a Season Pass holder you get early access to the two-in-one weapon, a SMG and assault rifle hybrid called the "Ripper." The four maps are the close-quarters "Ruins," small New York bridge "Collision," the long sight-lines "Behemoth," and "Unearthed," a reimagined version of the "Dome" map from Modern Warfare 3. The second episode of the Extinction story, titled Mayday, has your squad visiting a Chinese research vessel and doing battle with a giant Cryptid "Kraken" enemy.

Ghosts is also hosting a free multiplayer weekend starting tomorrow, and running through Monday, March 10. Free players will be able to try out three maps (Strikezone, Warhawk, and Prison Break), three modes (Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search & Rescue), and the Point of Contact Extinction mode.
