TV network AMC announced today that it is publishing another game based on its popular Walking Dead show, this time for the mobile market. It's in development from Next Games, and will launch alongside season five. Currently, the show is airing the second half of season four.
Details on the game itself are scant, but Next Games is said to be assembled from veterans of well-known studios like Rovio, Supercell, and Disney.
This wouldn't be the first attempt to model a game after the TV show. The PC and console game Walking Dead: Survival Instinct received largely negative reviews, and AMC has attempted publishing before with its Facebok social game. The more critically successful Walking Dead game, based more on the comic books, is now in its second season.
"Our take on the undead survival franchise will match the against-all-odds action and moment-to-moment tension of the TV series. We want to find that sweet spot where gameplay and narrative inform and reinforce one another," said Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen, in the announcement. "Like AMC’s The Walking Dead itself, we’re not giving away too many details right out the gate, but I can confidently state it’s unlike anything we’ve seen from The Walking Dead franchise on home or mobile gaming hardware before."
