Minecraft has turned into something of a sensation, and Hollywood seems to have taken notice. Warner Bros has reportedly acquired the rights to a film adaptation.

Deadline first reported on the deal, and Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson confirmed it with a tweet. According to the report, Roy Lee (producer for The Lego Movie) is attached to produce this block-based adaptation as well. Jill Messick (Mean Girls) is said to be producing in some capacity too. Minecraft may not have much of a plot, but then neither does Lego and that movie still worked out pretty well.

It's important to note that acquiring the film rights is only the first step to active production, and even movies that are fast-tracked tend to take a couple of years to complete, and can still be cancelled. This is just the start of the process, so it may be some time before we actually see Creepers on the silver screen.

I want to laugh, but then again a nebulous "lego" movie seems just as silly in theory.

Minecraft Steve is the lone post-apocalypse survivor of a race of supermen who could punch trees with their fists to make tools. With this and other magical abilities, he conquered the hellish landscape to make cakes and cookies. The end.

The Lego Movie was pretty awesome. This could work as one too.

I just don't' see how this could translate to a movie.... I don't know, it would take a lot of creativity.
