State of Decay Lifeline DLC stars dwindling army unit

State of Decay showed how regular folk might fare in the zombie apocalypse, scraping together what little they can and slowly gaining each other's trust. But what about a military unit, armed with such fancy equipment yet burdened with so much more responsibility? The new DLC 'Lifeline' will tackle that question, developer Undead Labs has revealed.

But what about a military unit, armed with such fancy equipment yet burdened with so much more responsibility? The new DLC 'Lifeline' will tackle that question, developer Undead Labs has revealed.

"Instead of starting with nothing, and slowly building yourself up into a post-apocalyptic powerhouse, you start the game as a well-equipped, well-supported military unit, and then must learn to improvise as one resource after another is depleted... and isn't coming back," Undead Labs said in the announcement.

The small unit Greyhound One will be sent into the new city of Danforth to rescue scientists who can help fight the zombie plague. It's set early on in the outbreak so you'll still be in touch with command and be able to call in off-map artillery support, but the situation will deteriorate.

You'll set up a base around a landing zone, from which new supplies come in and rescued civilians go out. Being the army, you'll be pretty well equipped to fortify and defend it, with tricks including minefields and military-grade weapons, but oh, there are so many zombies.

Undead Labs hasn't dated or priced Lifeline yet but plans to reveal more of it "in the coming weeks," promising details on military personnel and tactics and the new map of Danforth.

Is State of Decay good? I've avoided it so far cos it got mediocre reviews.

I think its one of those games that got reviews in the 70s or so like Stalker and Arma not because they are mediocre but because they are fun but not super polished.

Yup. At launch especially it lacked some polish and tuning. However, it's a fun and novel take on the zombie genre, with a focus on medium- and long-term survival.
