StarDrive 2 blasting off in September

As recently as 2012, I could approach people in the street, look them square in the eye and ask their opinions on space, only to receive a blank-faced reply of "Never 'eard of it guv." But now, oh now everyone adores space! Riding that rocket to the stars, StarDrive creator Zero Sum Games has announced a sequel to its spaceborne 4X strategy game, logically titled StarDrive 2.

"StarDrive 2 represents the culmination of two decades of love for the 4X genre and five years of work on the StarDrive universe," Zero Sum CEO Daniel DiCicco said in yesterday's announcement. "Here we have taken everything we have learned--our successes, our failures, and our passion--and made a 4X game that we are incredibly proud of." What exactly is different in the sequel, on top of the usual build-explore-research-schmooze-murder 4X shenanigans, is something of a mystery for now. Divine what you may from the handful of announcement screenshots. StarDrive 2 is expected to launch on PC, Mac, and Linux in September, published by Iceberg Interactive.

How does one drive a star anyway? Is a limousine involved?

Didn't I hear that the first one went unfinished and was a buggy, unplayable mess? I mean, I'm all in favor of more space games, and more space 4X games, but shouldn't they finish the first one before starting a sequel?

Yes they should and I will not be buying the sequel for this reason. The first game still feels like it's in Beta testing. Hell even some early access alpha games like Banished and Rust are more complete experiences than this.

Stardrive 1 still feels like an alpha game and some of the updates have only made it worse. Stardrive had potential that it will never fulfill and a sequel isn't going to be any better. I won't be buying it as I was already ripped off with the first game.
