'Console Wars' movie will tell the story of Sega vs Nintendo

5

Sony Pictures has bought the rights to Console Wars, a book that chronicles Sega's attempt at going head-to-head against Nintendo during the 90s. The upcoming book includes testimonies from hundreds of people who witnessed many behind-the-scenes battles between the two companies during that time.

According to Book Trade (via Eurogamer), Seth Rogen is already attached to the film as co-director and co-writer. Long-time collaborator Evan Goldberg will also be involved.

Described as a "business thriller," it's likely Sony is attempting to replicate the success of another one of its most popular films, The Social Network, which went into the behind-the-scenes creation of Facebook.

Sony is producing a movie about Nintendo and Sega. Huh.

Seth Rogen is already attached to the film

Oh God. Hopefully this won't get turned into some unfunny anti-comedy "comedy".

This sounds pretty great. Two Japanese game companies doing battle for the hearts and minds of Americans. So much comedy potential.

      Anybody read the book?

It's not out until August. I read that in another article linked yesterday somewhere. (Probably reddit)

Wait..."business thriller"?!? And Seth Rogen is attached? Why do we finally have a movie in the works that screams comedy, has Seth Rogen co-writing and co-directing, yet it's intended to be a "thriller"? Ugh...videogame movies ARE cursed.

Have you seen The Social Network? That is more like a business thriller. Most of the "thrills" come from somebody about to make or lose a lot of money. So there's plenty of room for comedy in this thing.

I would much rather like to see Nintendo Vs. Sony which leads to the creation of Playstation. But that's just me.
