Call of Duty: Ghosts is getting a free Steam weekend, just in time for a double XP weekend. It's also getting new customization options, because shooting guys with guns painted in cat patterns is crazy-go-nuts!

Call of Duty: Ghosts is gearing up for its next double XP weekend across all of the game's platforms. But to help boost enlistment numbers for the upcoming battle on PC, Activision and Infinity Ward are offering up a free weekend on Steam through Sunday at 1:00PM PST.

Even without the game's season pass, Ghosts features a number of multiplayer modes, including Heavy Duty and Gun Game, which were both recently patched in.

Ghosts has also received a new update that increases Create-a-Soldier loadout slots to 10, adds campaign characters to multiplayer, and lets players take control of series hero Captain John Price and his personal customization pack. Other customization options will be included, so you could riddle the enemy with bullets from a rifle painted with space cats.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

Yeah, only reason why I like the sp action is because it's like playing a dumb action movie, haha.

I thought the final level was really well done - and some other really cool moments in SP. It's got a much slower pace than other Call of Duty games, but they have some really good pacing. The whole sneak in the mountain base sequence was pretty exceptional IMO.

There were some good moments but it was pretty lackluster all around. The scene where you carry the injured dog was atrocious; I almost rage quit and never went back during that segment.

That was probably the low point for me. Not sure why it was even in there. I suppose it was less bombastic than the other campaigns though.

Everybody references that, and I got through it in like 20 minutes. I still don't think I was playing the same game...

My reply didn't go through. Weird.

You have to restart Steam, and it should show up in your library. Just right click and install.

Damn. I really wish they'd sell the singleplayer version standalone. I won't pay $60 for the singleplayer and never end up playing multi. I'd drop $20 on it.

I'm surprised it's 50% off. Seems a little early for a CoD game.

I liked Ghosts (pc) more than anyone else I know and I have to admit it is the weakest of the series.

They are really worried about Titanfall it seems, especially with all the positive press from the beta weekend.

Free weekend and a sale this soon after release?

50% is more than I would usually expect but a sale and a free-weekend coinciding with a DLC release 3 months after release isn't that unheard of.
