Gambling is pretty typical when it comes to sports activities, like placing a big bet on the Super Bowl or even setting up a friendly wager on whether the Knicks can actually win more than one game in a week. In addition, sports games have also been part of this system, as Virgin Gaming hosted matches for the likes of Madden and FIFA. But now fighting games will get their chance on the betting front.
Super Street Fighter IV and its subsequent arcade edition have joined the betting line-up over at Virgin Gaming's page, where players can log in and challenge opponents, then put their money where their mouth is with matches. From there, they can either store the cash or place it on the line in future wagers.
The competition supports one versus one head-to-head matches in both Super Street Fighter IV and its upgraded Arcade Edition, and there are certain measures in place for matchmaking and skill ratings so players won't find a way to "beat the system." Oh, and would-be bet-makers have to be at least 18 to participate.
More details can be found at Virgin Gaming's website. It'll be interesting to see if this takes off to the point that other fighting games join the fray, like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. And you thought losing quarters was stressful.
