The next Xbox One system update will be the most important one in the console's short life cycle so far. Coinciding with the launch of Titanfall, it promises to address the most pressing complaints people have had with Xbox Live services on Microsoft's next-gen machine.

"In order to ensure our customers have the best experience on Xbox One and Xbox Live, we need the help of our passionate community," Microsoft said in an announcement. Yep, that means a beta is coming.

Beginning today, Microsoft will invite "select Xbox Live members" to preview features from the March system update. Participants will be able to offer feedback before the features are rolled out in the official update.

To see if you were selected, log into Xbox Live and see if you've received a message with a token. Once registered, participants will receive access to beta firmware and access to a private forum to leave feedback.

Man that system just sounds like it should have baked in the oven a bit more before release. I was thinking about picking one up before for my console BF crew but still going to wait to see what happens.

the Xbox 360 had the same beta program for dashboard updates many many years after it was released. Wide real world testing is important, doesn't matter whether you're on v1 or v7.

Yes, I was in some of them. This one just screams that it still needed time. Not sure how the PS4 is compared to this but missing features that have been in the 360 'for years' should have not been dropped.

Oh, don't even start that. Gerstmann was very adamant that both of these machines "came in hot" and could have used more time to bake...

The Xbox One probably could have had a bit more of a polished UI if they didn't have to implement a disc based DRM system (and remove family/friend game sharing and other xbox live features built around that) 5 months before launch.

The PS4 has been fine but could use tweaks since launch. The One is missing basic features of the 360 since they had to rebuild that thing in like 3 months.

Yea, because never improving the software is really what people want.

Supposedly a large portion of Xbox Ambassadors got put into the beta program if they had participated in the last few months.
