The Year of Luigi is coming to a close.

The Year of Luigi is coming to a close. Nintendo first introduced the marketing concept in a Nintendo Direct one year ago. Since then, a number of Luigi-related games have come from the company, including a new Luigi's Mansion, New Super Luigi U, and Dr. Luigi. However, with the Year of Luigi also coinciding with one of the worst financial years in Nintendo's history, perhaps it's with a sigh of relief that the company has announced an end to its promotional gimmick.

"All good things must come to an end, and the Year of Luigi will conclude on March 18," Shigeru Miyamoto posted on Miiverse (via Joystiq). "From this date on, the Year of Luigi Community and its Developers' Room will sadly no longer accept new posts or comments."

"Thanks to everyone's kind support, we were able to release many Luigi games over the course of the year. I hope everyone continues to cheer for the green brother!" While the Year of Luigi may be officially ending, there's still more Luigi-related content to come, especially with new Smash Bros and Mario Kart games on the way.
