Titanfall beta gets slightly extended

The Titanfall beta, originally scheduled to end tomorrow, will instead wrap up on Wednesday.

24

The Titanfall beta went open over the weekend, letting those with an Xbox One (with Gold) or PC (who signed up in time) have a crack at the mech-shooter. Respawn has announced that it's been extended for an extra day, which should come as something of a relief to late-comers who weren't otherwise going to get much time with it.

The beta was originally set to end tomorrow at 6 PM PST, but a tweet from Respawn (via Game Informer) instead changed the date to Wednesday, February 19. The same end time, 6pm PST, still applies.

As previously reported, the beta includes three game modes: Attrition, a team deathmatch mode; Hardpoint Domination, a control point mode; and Last Titan Standing, a mode with no respawns and matches going until only one team has any remaining players left alive.

So, what are impressions so far? Mostly curious how buggy or bug-free it is...

It seemed mostly bug-free. There is a glitch on the burn card page that causes the screen to flicker but that's the only issue I've run into like that. The interface could use some polish and consistency on PC, but it's generally fine.

There's also an issue with the in game VSync option causing severe performance loss. After I disabled it, it was south sailing.

I've played about 12 matches now, all with a 360 controller on the PC.

With a GTX660 on an i5-750 with 8 GB of RAM, it runs mostly smooth at 1280x768. The only time it has any noticeable slowdown is in one specific part of one specific map but it's not that significant. That being said, even with the default settings which are mostly high detail, some of the textures look really gross... especially some of the ones when you're getting into a titan. I'm not sure if it's a glitch or they didn't put the final textures in the beta or just my settings but my textures are set to HIGH so I dunno.

The game plays pretty acceptably with a controller on the PC. They give auto-aim assist to controller players. Shotgunning and using the seeker pistol thing are easy. Piloting a titan is easy. Using an assault rifle or anything at range is harder. Parkouring all crazy isn't so easy, would probably be easier with a mouse and keyboard. I still have a 1:1 kill ratio and am in the middle of the pack most games though.

I haven't seen any bugs, besides it sometimes picking the wrong refresh rate for my CRT monitor.

The video options are lacking though. No way to set a framerate cap or set refresh ratef, and there aren't as many options as in Battlefield, which I think should be the standard for FPS's.

Oh yeah, and turning Vsync off caps the framerate to 60, which totally sucks for people with 120hz monitors. I'm sure that will be patched though.

Make sure vsync is forced off in your drivers and triple-buffering is forced ON in your drivers, then enable triple-buffering in Titanfall.

On my system I have to disable/reenable triple-buffering in Titanfall's options every time I launch the game, but that's easy.

I started playing this today, spent a couple hours on the multiplayer. Don't like it, I feel like they have a good shooter going, but I wish the Titans had been handled differently. Destructible environments would have been great in this game. Towards the end of the maps it just feels underwhelming, here you have these huge Titans fighting and once they're gone it looks like it did before.

If anything I'd increase the size of the map.

I also think the Titans die too fast. I know why, it's to give everyone in the map a chance at having one. The best players get theirs first, then the noobs in the middle, then the best players at the end again.

I feel the same. Kind of wish I didn't buy it already. At least I managed a bit of a discount through GMG though. Hopefully the full game will have larger maps. I was also really hoping for destructible environments as well. The titans don't really feel epic.

Another major issue I have are the AI. They are idiots. They all seem to just group together and don't kill anyone. I feel like they are just there for some lucky person to find and rack up a few points. Wish they would either make them more of a threat or just remove them and bump up the player count instead!

I guess overall I've just been finding the game boring. You just run around shooting guys, get a titan, run around shooting guys, lose titan and then run around shooting guys...

Hopefully there will be more to the final version though!

I enjoyed my time with the beta. The gameplay wasn't quite as unique as we were led to believe in the trailers but it was still good. I guess that was to be expected in anycase. The game feels like a mash up between several games and that will appeal to a lot of people.

The maps selected for the beta feel fine for pilot gameplay but as soon as you get in your titan it starts to feel a bit constrictive.Hard to say if that is a good or bad thing considering the Titans are more or less powerups or rewards for performance. The trailers suggest the game has a multiplayer campaign so I have a feeling there will be larger maps that we just haven't seen yet.

I will most likely buy the game but I am going to wait for reviews to talk about the other game modes and the state of the game servers at launch.

Seriously i wasn't expecting much from this game, I never watched any videos, but after playing the beta for a couple of hours i went and preordered it.

The game runs super smooth (fps going between 50 and 60) on my pc all setting maxed (textures at insane) + 4x msaa at 1080p on an old i5 760 and a msi gtx 670 oc pe.

I have a similar setup and I'm getting 110-130 fps with the same settings. Try forcing VSync off in your nvidia drivers (for titanfall) and then enabling Triple Buffering in-game; that should unlock your framerate.

Also you can start the game with the commandline "+cl_showfps 1" to see your frames. My command line args are: +novid +cl_showfps 1 +m_rawinput 1

Honestly though I'm not sure if the rawinput cmd does anything; I can't say I noticed any difference at all.

I definitely had to turn my mouse sensitivity back up a little after enabling raw input; I'd had it completely minimized prior to that.

I have the slider as low as it can go and still have to lower the DPI on my mouse to get it playable for for me; but I'm pretty eccentric in my ultra-low mouse sensitivity. Hell, my mouse pad is two-feet wide.

I can't get it to work. It keeps telling me that it needs to update but the folder is already in use by Origin. Even after a restart it gives me this finger so I'm just going to pretend that I'm not missing out on anything even though it's the only thing I obsess over when I look at my stupid PC.

I put in a few hours over the weekend and had absolutely zero bugs. The game is hella fun. To begin with it really just feels like a CoD derivative, but as you customize your pilot and get a feel for the wall running, the awesome reflective bullet shields, and the weird dodge mechanic they gave the titans, it starts to set itself apart.

I'm going to resist pre-ordering but this is the game that finally made me decide to update my rig.

I just got MVP on Hardpoint by defending a point almost the entire match while I had my Titan help. Even if I missed seeing an enemy player approach, my Titan would shoot at them and tip me off that they were coming. So much fun!
