NES Remix is about to get a new partner release. NES Remix 2 will feature all-new challenges from a whole new stack of games, ranging from 8-bit classics like Metroid, Kid Icarus, and Punch-Out. Like its predecessor, NES Remix 2 will also feature a number of remixed challenges. It will also feature a mode called Super Luigi Bros., based on a challenge from the first NES Remix.

Challenges and remixes will be based on the following NES games:

  • Ice Hockey

  • Wario's Woods

  • The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventures of Link

  • Super Mario Bros. 2

  • Dr. Mario

  • Kirby's Adventure

  • Super Mario Bros. 3

  • Kid Icarus

  • Punch-Out!!

  • Metroid

  • Mario Open Golf

  • Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (a.k.a. Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan)

NES Remix 2 will release on April 25 at a presumably similar $14.99 price point.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

pretty stupid that they couldn't have put all these in the original game. I mean it's just basically rom hacks with a shiny overlay.

Not stupid at all. NES Remix is like a sampler platter of classic games: taste test from the platter (say, Zelda 2), then buy the full meal off the Virtual Console if you want more.

I just wish the sampler platter wasn't so expensive. $14.99 feels like a little much. But to carry this analogy all the way through, sampler platters are expensive at just about any restaurant.

A $15 sampler platter, yeah, no thanks. If they were smart they would have released it for free or $5 if it's supposed to do what you say, get people to buy the stupid games on the VC.

It's as much of a sampler platter as Warioware is. As in, barely one at all.

WarioWare is actually a pretty good comparison. I'll go with that.

Except it's phenomenally slow and uninteresting compared to WarioWare. It rarely does anything interesting with the premise, and more often than not it just feels like a laundry list of tedious tasks with far too much time spent navigating the menu inbetween.

I want to play it, but for $15 they can suck a dick. Nintendo consistently makes stupid decisions.

Hmm, the first remix was only 10€ in Europe.

Hopefully the price point will be the same for this second one also.

This will be fun release during April while waiting for Kirby and Mario Kart.

Also kind of hoping they would continue on their "premium discounts" and offer for example this NES Remix 2 at a discount to people who already own the first one.

They have some similar stuff with for example owned Wii Virtual Console games that if you buy a same one for Wii U VC, you get an updated version with off tv play for 1 dollar/euro instead of paying the full price.

It's not exactly same as Sony's generous cross platform play, but still getting there.
