Watch Dogs delayed on Wii U

Watch Dogs has been delayed on Wii U, as an earnings call from Ubisoft noted that most versions were still due in spring, but Wii U's version would come "at a later date."

Watch Dogs will be delayed on Wii U after all, Ubisoft announced today. During an earnings call, the company recommitted to its spring release target for the vast majority of systems, but said the Wii U version will come "at a later date."

Rumors began swirling when fans noticed that Wii U pre-orders from GameStop were being cancelled, which the company subsequently chalked up to a "glitch." Today's announcement (via Kotaku) sheds a little more light on the subject, as it sounds like the Wii U version isn't outright nixed, but definitely isn't a top priority. It's notably the only one to be outsourced, but Ubisoft had promised its quality would be better than the PS3 and 360 versions.

The PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One editions--everything but the Wii U version--are still due in spring as scheduled.

I think we all saw this coming. Here's a question: Does next AC game even come out on Wii U or does Ubisoft go the way of EA this fall?

I wonder if the game is being delayed because of technical issues or because the low install base just made it a lower priority.

That and no real way to sell DLC.

I imagine the poor install base would cause extremely low DLC sales. Not sure if that's what they were going for or not, but it would make sense.

Kind of like the hot chick in highschool who you tutored but she said she couldn't hook up with you until she broke up with her boyfriend and they never did because she got knocked up but not from him but from some poetry major at a community college.

It sucks to see the Wii U flounder like this. I can't imagine how they're going to turn this around when even Ubisoft now is throwing them under the bus.

Yeah Ubisoft was the only 3rd party that seemed to be supporting Wii U. If they drop out there is nothing.

I figured that this would be a good third party game for the gamepad.

Yeah I was excited to see what they do with the gamepad, since the hacking and other tech stuff could easily be enhanced with the addition of a second screen.

Was planning on getting the Wii U version most likely. If they do their worst and cancel it even though it could very likely be the best because of the gamepad, I'll be getting the PC version, when it hit's the 5€ range.

As much as I like Nintendo I can't get too mad at the publishers. These are businesses, not charities, and if it doesn't make business sense to develop for the Wii U no one should expect these publishers to bail out Nintendo just to be nice.

Sure, if all the third parties jumped back on board maybe they could turn this ship around, but right now developing for the Wii U seems to be wasting money. As far as I know all the Wii U games Ubisoft has made have flopped horribly. They're going to be running out of patience.

they did rayman legends and Zombie U, both were great and were some of the better selling games so far, but those weren't a ton of sales either

Wii U has over 5 million users. It's a crime that Rayman Legends and ZombiU didn't sell over a million already since both very absolutely awesome on the platform.

Watch Dogs and X were the main reasons I bought a Wii U, the fact it could play both on the Wii U. Those were my favorite E3 presentations.

To quote from another article on this site -

"While the game will look better on Wii U, it doesn't appear Ubisoft is adding any unique GamePad functionality into the game. "There are no new features or anything like that," Morin admitted. "It's the same game but we're optimizing the controls for the beast that is the Wii U GamePad." "

Even if it does come to the Wii U they are apparently not adding GamePad functionality.

So what are they doing about all the gamepad specific features already shown? It would be a shame to just scrap them.
