Far Cry Classic coming revamped to Xbox 360 and PS3 next week

After a strange spot of confusion, Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry Classic will indeed be coming to North America--next week, in fact. Ubi's HD revamp of the series-sparking shooter was included in the European equivalent of the Far Cry Compilation, but, for whatever reason, in North America it'll be a $9.99 download on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The tarted-up version of Far Cry brings improved graphics, "revamped" cut-scenes, and a new user interface to the old tale about a captain who ends up trapped on a tropical island, then needs to murder a load of mercenaries and mutants. Far Cry Classic is slated to launch on February 11, in both North America and Europe. The Far Cry Compilation, and its European equivalent The Wild Expedition, are also both due next week. Look, here are the few screenshots we have of the game:

I wonder if they will do away with some of the more PC-like buttons/options, like "lean left" and "lean right" (obviously there are only so many buttons to map on a controller).

OMG just watched a gameplay video for Far Cry 1 (PC) and I didn't realize how bad the voice acting was back then.

Except for the guy who voiced "Doyle", who was your phone-a-friend , he was pretty decent.

I think they switched voice actors on Doyle in the middle of the recording stage. The demo had a voice actor who had a sound like a 20-35 year old "urban" kind of accent, but then the full game went for a 35-50 year old "businessman" accent. You can tell the difference if you play the "Fort" demo released prior to the retail release (...remember back when publishers and developers would do that?), and compare it to the same level in the game.

There are some clips of Doyle in the final game that were done by the OLD voice actor. It's not just one mixup either: I remember at least 5 lines from the old actor. Maybe they didn't review the VO programming in the run up to going gold. Ubisoft had released 2 demos ("Fort" and "Pier"), and they had a third one planned (the "Boat" level), but that got cancelled about 5 days prior to the game's street date: http://www.shacknews.com/article/31064/no-far-cry-boat-demo

If they take away lean they would have to change the gameplay balancing.

I wonder if they'll do away with that ridiculous ending. LOL.
Where you are running through lava and avoiding mutants left and right. LOL. Memories. Maybe a re-imagining of this?

I'd love a pc version revamp. I have it on steam, but it's buggy

Well, not surprised that PC is left out. Ubi tends to do that with their "HD" re-releases.

Wait, is Far Cry Classic also going to be downloadable in Europe on XBLA?

      What a confusing article.

Very cool. I love this game so much, even the mutants. Graphically, it was a revelation when it came out. The graphics still held up 5 years after it;s release. I'll probably grab this one for the PS3...
