The Last of Us sequel a possibility for Naughty Dog

The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann says the studio is brainstorming its next project, and sequels are on the table.

This past year was a huge one for Naughty Dog, a team that broke away from the Uncharted series long enough to produce the startlingly original--and often jarring--The Last of Us for PlayStation 3. The game met with both critical success and strong sales, leaving some wondering: will we see a sequel? In response, Naughty Dog actually seems to be thinking it over.

"We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP--we've spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP," creative director Neil Druckmann told Eurogamer. "So we have to get some good steps and see... it's kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that's really worth telling, and that's not repeating itself? And if we can't where can we get inspired – what is something that's really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"

Naughty Dog has already announced a new Uncharted, which slims the list of potential sequels the studio could be considering.

As for the possibility of a PlayStation 4 port of The Last of Us, "We have such limited resources, and it's a question of where you put the resources," Druckmann stated. "It's something where we can have a feel of where the demand is, and where our time is best spent. It's something that we'll figure out as we move forward."

Meanwhile, fans can look forward to the release of the Left Behind DLC, which arrives next week on PlayStation Network. The Last of Us also scooped a grand 10 prizes at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences DICE awards this week.

I agree. I sold my PS3 before the DLC because I can't see needing more plot in that IP. I hope they make something new that rivals TLoU for quality or end up porting it to PS4 because I want that kind of experience again and Uncharted is not going to give that

I'd actually love for them to do a sequel only in the sense that it exists in the same universe. Just a completely different story though.

The universe isn't all that exciting though. Joel and Ellie are The Last of Us, in my mind.

More Ellie. A few years older so they can fully model her after Ellen Page.

But without Ellen Page's consent, so she can get all pissed off again.

I want a sequel purely to see that game with next gen visuals

agreed. And in that world. It would be amazing.

I'd love a sequel where Ellie is older, wiser, and pissed off at being lied to by Joel; while the epidemic is only worse and worse

I would think going that direction would contradict the ending of the game.

honestly - it does not matter what they do. They're very talented in this business.

However I do hope they push for a sequel for Last of Us. Even if its not with Joel and Ellie.

They could do a sequel in that world with different characters and I'd be fine with it.
