The beta for Bungie's Destiny is coming in summer, publisher Activision has announced. This narrows its previous target of early 2014, but could mean it will miss the first half of the year.
Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg gave the updated window during the company's most recent earnings call (via CVG). As previously reported, the beta will be available on all announced platforms (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One) and pre-ordering from participating retailers will get you early access. It's set to release on September 9.

I don't typically buy into publisher hype, but I have a feeling that when Destiny hits this fall, it's gonna be ridiculous.

I think it's going to be hugely successful, and I think that's a good thing. It's a good idea with the right developer being it.

It wasn't a mistake, they simply didn't have the studio size to develop for so many platforms. And if you're forced to choose to cut a platform, the PC platform makes the most sense to cut. Without a doubt, the PC is a superior platform in terms of performance, but from a business sense, the consoles are a better bet to develop for.
