really, you don't have to be clean to drive, you just can't be drunk. (unless you are under 21 of course) Working in the restaurant business will give you a better idea of how much alcohol people can have. sometimes we'll call a taxi and won't allow people to drive, but if you have a couple beers, we let you drive home because you aren't under the influence.

something that pissed me off as a server was people thinking I was doing everything just to get tips. Like when i say "do you need change" i'm not trying to pressure you to give me money, but to find out if you, well, need change. Or when i say "do you need coffee/dessert/anything else?" I just want to know if you need the check, which i probably have in my little notebook right then. I'm not driving up the bill to get tips: people who eat dessert stay in my table longer, meaning i get less people in a shift, meaning i make less money, not more.

so don't be an asshole, jack, and think she was just getting tips. She probably was just pressured by her manager (hey see that guy drinking water? Go try to sell him alcohol so i look good) or just wanted that guy to have a good time.

And man, austin does have a really bad drink driving problem...
After seeing the scabs on wednesday nights, you can see floods of drunks flooding out of antone's piling into their cars!
All my work buddies drink drive too, and it pisses me off.

I love austin, but after living in Atlanta for many years, where drink driving is really looked down on, it was strange to come here and have everyone like "well, I can see my fingers, therefore I can drive!"

The waitress wanted tips eh? I'd have given her a huge "tip" and shove my $#@% in her mouth..

My father often drinks and drives.. but he has never crashed of result of that.. but one day it is going to catch up to him probably. I make him fork over the keys when he has been drinking though.

thursday night was my last night at a well known chain restaurant that has a bar. While i was cleaning up/doing my work, i hit the bar a couple times for shots of stuff. I take liquor really well and know when to stop, so i wasn't worried about driving.

i mean come on, a beer on a full stomach isn't going to impair your driving ability. I have served alcohol to many people who proceeded to drive home, but they weren't *drunk*. They would just have maybe a beer.

of course, if someone is drinking water i let them, part of upselling liquor is knowing when they want it, but are afraid/don't want to ask.
