With an upcoming movie and excellent reviews for Rivals, the Need for Speed franchise seems to be doing quite well. However, Electronic Arts has put plans for one upcoming game in the series on hold as it laid off staff from developer Ghost Games.

Ghost Games, which recently took over development of the franchise, is actually comprised of two studios. Gothenburg worked on Rivals in conjunction with Criterion Games. However, according to Polygon, the Surrey office of Ghost Games has been impacted with layoffs, with Electronic Arts confirming it has "entered a consultation period for some positions in our Ghost Games UK studio"

According to Polygon's sources, the franchise will continue to be worked on by members of the Gothenburg studio, while remaining members of the UK studio will work on Visceral's game, rumored to be a police-themed Battlefield game, scheduled for later this year.
