Diablo2 Players Shafted
by Steve Gibson, Aug 05, 2000 10:55am PDTThe Diabloii.net guys have a list of all the gameplay changes made with the v1.03 patch. They basically shafted the Barbarian and Necromancers by adjusting the skills. (Making all that planning players did worthless, and not giving anyone a chance to re-work their skills) Cant say I agree with the decision at all. The gameplay changes are fine, but not allowing players an option to re-choose skills sucks a gonad. Not een everyone at Blizzard was behind the deicion, GFrazier from Blizzard feels skill points should have been refunded as well. Thanks macphisto

It would have been nice if they had proposed the changes and allowed a vote, then incorporated those who won by a popular majority, but I guess that takes the fun out of making the decisions, doesn't it. It's their game and we don't have to play it, do we? I still will, because I wanna kill Diablo, but beyond that I'll most likely return to CounterStrike (even though this has been more fun and less stress to play.)

They rebalanced Starcraft drastically, and yes some people never got over the "nerfing" of the zerg.. but it was definitely for the best. I chose to play a Necro first because, well, it was pretty damn obvious that things wouldn't stay as they were. Heck I waltzed through the game on Nightmare and Hell with relative ease. The only time it was hard was on Normal, when I didn't have my skills high enough.
Not that I'd want to play a Necro now, knowing the power they once possessed..

You think ANYONE is impressed at your character?
YOu think you even have half a chance at getting up to the levels of the people who play characters 18-24 hours a day? (yes that's how they get up there... they swap characters and just play them 24/7.
After the game is won, everything else is a wast-o time...
In 1 person game, it does: 60-100% damage
In 8 persons game, it does: 7.5-12.5% damage
Remember that in the end its just a game. If you have ever seen anything about U0 or Everquest you know that nerfs happen all the time. Necros and barbarians were too powerful, it was obvious. It hurts all D2 players because I team up with necros and barbarians through some levels. And yes, Blizzard should have allowed you to reassign some points.
You should try playing an amazon on NM solo in a 5 player game. Act I Blood Moor is damed hard :P
All you stupid whining necros and barbarians should just uninstall, reinstall, put on the 1.02 patch, play your own little open and lan games, and stay the fuck off battle.net.
Losers.
Thanks!

The changes they made to the necro won't really affect anyone who made an efficient necro. Corpse explosion will still OWN.. 90% of the players out there overcast corpse explosion as it is...blowing up about 10 dead bodies after every monster is dead so its no big deal that the radius is smaller.. Now all that overcasting will pay off for them.
tweaking for online rpgs in this manner, after the game has been released... is retarded
anyone can confirm this shit about natural resistance and iron skin not working past 1/2 skill points ? that would suck.
i feel your pain </empathy>
cheers,
ecc
"OMG... I am soo sorry but I forgot to mention <add some missing bugs fixe here>, resulting in the death all the necros and 50% of all the barbarians in hardcore. Oops... sorry... oh well, shit happen. In other news, we have a new strategy guide that will come out in one month. I strongly advice you to buy it since it will tell you all the new feature of patch 1.3 and what you can expect in the future. It just costs $100."
Maybe you got a shield that increase your life each time you kill someone?
I bet you play alone... that's why you still enjoy CE. Go play with 8 players and I WILL ENJOY WATCHING YOU CASTING CE LIKE HELL AND WASTE ALL YOUR MANA POTIONS! Last time I try it, I almost die.
On the side news, thx god, we have a new feature regarding life that is sooo neat. You will learn how badly you got hurt after all the "combo hits" occurs... I was surprised to see my life dropping like nuts in a short time... thanks God Durial was also there to help me appreciate the problem of health too. I just died about 15 times before I beat him.

It's an EXAMPLE. That strat works against nearly any group of ranged attackers.
So.. if I was fighting with a barbarian [not allied though] and I cast iron maiden on the bad guys.. and bad guys "kill" themselves, I get the kill?
As I understand it, you should. Maybe it's supposed to work differently when seperate players come into question, but it's stated that Iron Maiden causes monsters to directly damage themselves.
You did not answer the "amp damage" question either.]i
If your golem does 2X the damage, he should absorb 2X the life. If that's not how it currently works, it's a bug.
Keep in mind that I'm just posting what Blizzard employee GFrazier has said on the subject. If you don't like the logic, go argue with him (though you'll have to get in line - the Blizzard D2 boards are surely in chaos with all the whining about the patch).

I recommend you to read the entire post. Is it obvious they are trying to make change to the skills and trying to avoid notifying the player by forgetting to mention it in the readme.

Everyone got their opinion I guess... I will be more an attract guy than a revive guy... nothing wrong with that... nothing wrong with your strategy too.
Regarding the combos Iron/blood, the reason why I read it is a bug is because it was not intended for such use.
The blood golem returns life ONLY if he hurts someone. Iron Maiden is NOT making him RETURN damage. Iron Maiden RETURN damage to the monster ONLY. Right now the damage recieve by the monster from the iron is considered coming from the Blood golem (because he is your minion I guess). That's why you and the golem get heal up but this should have never happen. What should really happen is that only your blood golem get health when he hit.
It is quite funny to think we are talking about strategy to a guy(me) who has decided today to stop playing this game :P

As soon as they make the distinction between tweaking a system after release and big fixes, EVERY FUCKING TWEAK becomes a bug fix.
The distinction is bullshit. If a bug works for everyone, it non-obvious (i.e. like granting you super-powers or something for killing a lowly creature) and everyone assumes that the system is supposed to work the way it does (since precious few online RPGs actually let anyone know HOW the systems are supposed to work, this is downright impossible), then there is NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BUG FIX AND A GODDAMN TWEAK as far as the player is concerned.
This is why I don't even bother with MMRPG's anymore. You will get screwed and usually the people who abuse quirky bugs in systems get away with it free and clear. They are always SOOO concerned with losing players from fucking punishing the cheaters, but they will gladly down-tweak systems on people who did nothing wrong. Fucking bastards.
Every single online RPG that I have played, since the late eighties on the GEnie service, has done this.
It is total bullshit. It makes good people stop playing their games, but they don't care. They know that more people will come along, based on the opinions of people who WEREN'T screwed and start playing.
I've seen too many players of (M)MPRPG's go to work for the companies that run them, thinking that they will show the company and the other programmers the way to do things so you don't fuck the customer. In every case of it being someone I knew, they became just like the other bastards in a few months, having had to deal with the worst of the players and becomming a total cynical bastard about protecting the fun of anyone beyond what they needed to do to keep getting paid.
And I doubt attract doesn't suck.

Wake up around 5Am to be able to join a game because some fucked servers are so full.
Level 44, lvl21 iron maiden, level 15 corpse explosion.. Hell diff, act2.
I walk into the sewers just to see how shitty i am, there's a group of burning dead, i cast my lvl6 fire golem, and maiden them and let him go at it..
there's 4 warriors, and 5 archers.. archers don't get damage done from maiden, cause they're missle.. so the 4 warriors die within seconds.
I turn on the archers, cast amp dmg on them (2 casts, low range) then CE the 4 warrior corpses. They're still standing. I thought "oh my" then checked their health.. all 5 were at 3/4 and i could watch it go up about 2mm per second. There I sat, with my golem pecking away at them.. unable to do more damage than they could heal.
I uninstalled d2 now, the only thing left that was fun was goofing off with the necro.. the rest of the classes are too click happy, and boring.
gg blizzard, your 4 years in dev game lasted 3 (that's pushing it) fun weeks.
