Diablo2 Players Shafted

The Diabloii.net guys have a list of all the gameplay changes made with the v1.03 patch. They basically shafted the Barbarian and Necromancers by adjusting the skills. (Making all that planning players did worthless, and not giving anyone a chance to re-work their skills) Cant say I agree with the decision at all. The gameplay changes are fine, but not allowing players an option to re-choose skills sucks a gonad. Not een everyone at Blizzard was behind the deicion, GFrazier from Blizzard feels skill points should have been refunded as well. Thanks macphisto

  • As a Clvl 25 Sorceress who is currently still in Act 3, I'm just glad that they didn't fuck with the Sorceress much. Even though they made the Static Field spell useless (1/4 an enemy's hit points instead of 1/3), thankfully the "Blizzard Oracle" realized that the Sorceress is one of the hardest characters to play in the game. But who knows if or when they'll suddenly make changes to the game and toss it out as a patch? I was planning on playing with the Necro next, because it looked like he had some badass skills once you got up from the earlier levels. But now that they've neutered his skills, what's the point? I want a challenge; I don't want impossibility.

It would have been nice if they had proposed the changes and allowed a vote, then incorporated those who won by a popular majority, but I guess that takes the fun out of making the decisions, doesn't it. It's their game and we don't have to play it, do we? I still will, because I wanna kill Diablo, but beyond that I'll most likely return to CounterStrike (even though this has been more fun and less stress to play.)

  • Don't get mad at Blizzard. Blizzard is one of the few companies that are willing to admit that aside from bugs, their games aren't perfect upon release. Blizzard acknowledges that you can achieve far greater gameplay balance with hundreds of thousands of players than you can in any pre-release beta (heck most companies don't even have those!).

They rebalanced Starcraft drastically, and yes some people never got over the "nerfing" of the zerg.. but it was definitely for the best. I chose to play a Necro first because, well, it was pretty damn obvious that things wouldn't stay as they were. Heck I waltzed through the game on Nightmare and Hell with relative ease. The only time it was hard was on Normal, when I didn't have my skills high enough.

Not that I'd want to play a Necro now, knowing the power they once possessed..

Maybe you got a shield that increase your life each time you kill someone?

I bet you play alone... that's why you still enjoy CE. Go play with 8 players and I WILL ENJOY WATCHING YOU CASTING CE LIKE HELL AND WASTE ALL YOUR MANA POTIONS! Last time I try it, I almost die.

On the side news, thx god, we have a new feature regarding life that is sooo neat. You will learn how badly you got hurt after all the "combo hits" occurs... I was surprised to see my life dropping like nuts in a short time... thanks God Durial was also there to help me appreciate the problem of health too. I just died about 15 times before I beat him.

  • Oh, and I just read the comment by the Blizzard guy...

As soon as they make the distinction between tweaking a system after release and big fixes, EVERY FUCKING TWEAK becomes a bug fix.

The distinction is bullshit. If a bug works for everyone, it non-obvious (i.e. like granting you super-powers or something for killing a lowly creature) and everyone assumes that the system is supposed to work the way it does (since precious few online RPGs actually let anyone know HOW the systems are supposed to work, this is downright impossible), then there is NO FUCKING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BUG FIX AND A GODDAMN TWEAK as far as the player is concerned.

This is why I don't even bother with MMRPG's anymore. You will get screwed and usually the people who abuse quirky bugs in systems get away with it free and clear. They are always SOOO concerned with losing players from fucking punishing the cheaters, but they will gladly down-tweak systems on people who did nothing wrong. Fucking bastards.

  • I think the whole point of this even being a issue that they changed the rules without letting people make adjustments for it.

Every single online RPG that I have played, since the late eighties on the GEnie service, has done this.

It is total bullshit. It makes good people stop playing their games, but they don't care. They know that more people will come along, based on the opinions of people who WEREN'T screwed and start playing.

I've seen too many players of (M)MPRPG's go to work for the companies that run them, thinking that they will show the company and the other programmers the way to do things so you don't fuck the customer. In every case of it being someone I knew, they became just like the other bastards in a few months, having had to deal with the worst of the players and becomming a total cynical bastard about protecting the fun of anyone beyond what they needed to do to keep getting paid.

  • haha, this patched owned my necro.

Level 44, lvl21 iron maiden, level 15 corpse explosion.. Hell diff, act2.

I walk into the sewers just to see how shitty i am, there's a group of burning dead, i cast my lvl6 fire golem, and maiden them and let him go at it..
there's 4 warriors, and 5 archers.. archers don't get damage done from maiden, cause they're missle.. so the 4 warriors die within seconds.

I turn on the archers, cast amp dmg on them (2 casts, low range) then CE the 4 warrior corpses. They're still standing. I thought "oh my" then checked their health.. all 5 were at 3/4 and i could watch it go up about 2mm per second. There I sat, with my golem pecking away at them.. unable to do more damage than they could heal.

I uninstalled d2 now, the only thing left that was fun was goofing off with the necro.. the rest of the classes are too click happy, and boring.

gg blizzard, your 4 years in dev game lasted 3 (that's pushing it) fun weeks.
