  • So, I suppose it's about time that I say my (hopefully temporary) goodbye to the show.

I've had the show paused for a while with about an hour left. I kinda don't want to listen to it because I don't want it to be over. I love that there's still un-listened-to Weekend Confirmed on my iPhone. Also, I'm waiting until my home making duties require me to cut onions so I can listen to the end ; )

Like many of you, I've been here since 1UP. Those were difficult times for me, my career had me constantly travelling, waking up somewhere new every day, missing my wife and kids, not being able to play video games much. But having Garnett, John, David and Shane's voice in my ear every week was a pleasant ritual that bought some measure of consistency and made me feel connected to my hobby despite going weeks without picking up a controller. I have to be honest, when I first heard Garnett's voice I thought he was a jerk. He was railing on a game and it rubbed me the wrong way, I remember thinking: who does this guy thin he is? But as the episode progressed he made more and more sense and by the time the end music played, his articulate and precise conversation made a fan out of me. I remember the last 1UP episode, a letter was being read from a Middle East deployed soldier, he told how they cranked the podcast while on patrol and John remarked "you mean to tell me that somewhere in Iraq there's a Hum V with our bullshit blasting out of it?" Through tears of sadness, I laughed so loud and hard. Ah, those were good times.

Not long after 1UP Yours finished I quit my career and moved back to Australia and it was great when Weekend Confirmed started up. It was like a new podcast for a new phase of my life. For me the highlights were getting to know the refreshingly positive Jeff Cannata and hearing him scream in exasperation at various abominations, and I loved the Denis Dyack interview. Not only was it great to have my question read, but the way Garnett asked him some really sharp questions that many listeners had wanted asked. The lowest point was Stanky Dick, the scars remain, albeit now freshly stinging thanks to Christian's brief sample. But I love you too Spicer.

I think the best part of podcasting is the way it can make a mundane thing fun. Your voices have joined me during thousands of dishes washed, kilometers jogged, roads driven, washing folded ... I honestly can not remember how I got by before podcasting was a thing.

And now Weekend Confirmed is coming to an end.

It's gonna suck, but I'll still have the Bombcast to keep me company. It was actually you, Garnett, who got me into the Bombcast years ago during 1UP Yours when you suggested listeners check it out.

But alas it's not over Garnett, I know you'll be talking about games in some form and I'll be looking forward to reading or listening to whatever you put out there (and you too Jeff). Should you choose to resume podcasting you know I'll be there at episode 1 and I'm happy to kick in a few dollars to help you guys get started back up. To all the hosts and reoccurring guests and of course behind the scenes magicians, thank you. Honestly thank you. Thank you for countless hours of free entertainment that sprung from your personal sacrifice. Good luck, I genuinely wish you all the best on what ever roads you choose to take.

Hopefully I get to have a beer with you one day Garnett if you ever get down to Australia. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/bluemilkman/jeffnmoi.jpg

    Cheers - a grateful listener
