You may have forgotten, what with the adorable Legos and singing dwarves, but Middle-Earth is a grimy, bloody, dangerous place. That goes doubly for Orcs, whose role as sword-fodder for the heroes makes their body count especially high. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor intends to remind us of this fact, starting with a lengthy 8-minute gameplay walkthrough trailer that bleeds black all over the place.

In it, we get to see our hero Talion climb some walls, target his enemies, and even use his Wraith abilities to turn one hapless orc named Ratbag against his superiors. We also get glimpses of the Nemesis system, as both Ratbag and his boss Orthog remember Talion from previous encounters.

Shadow of Mordor being developed by Monolith Productions for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A release date hasn't been given, but it's currently slated for 2014.

Yeah, had to click back to find the other lone mention back in Nov. Sounds interesting. At least it's original.

No kidding. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, I guess, but it seems blatant enough that Ubisoft could probably sue Monolith and WB for trademark infringement and win easily. Anyway, with that said, I am very much looking forward to this one. It looks awesome.

What trademark would be infringed, exactly?

Can't trademark a genre or play mechanic. If they were doing like that Hearthstone clone and basically aping the content so it looked close, but not exactly, obviously we saw that Blizz felt there was enough ground to go after them. But, the first MMO couldn't sue everyone else for mimicking Press A (or 1) to attack. Unless it was Apple. Then you could patent it and sue every game previous and future. (sorry, hate all that swipe to unlock patent crap)

What? Not a chance. Its an open-world game where you can climb things and kill people. Are they going after GTA too?

Sure animation looks the same, but if you actually listen to the systems they're talking about it's about as much AC as Dishonored is.

It looks exactly like Assassin's Creed. AAA developers have no shame.

To me it looks more like the Batman: Arkham games than Assassin's Creed. Also, I think it looks pretty enjoyable. It'll probably end up being yet another mediocre franchise cash-in, but I can dream, can't I?
