Not everyone has taken up arms for Relic's latest World War II RTS, Company of Heroes 2. With recruitment for the war effort down and the Nazis banging on Moscow's front door, Sega and Relic are offering a free weekend on Steam to bring fresh pain to Hitler's armies and help bring glory to Mother Russia, comrade.

The Company of Heroes 2 free weekend is already underway on Steam and will run through Sunday, January 19 at 1PM PST. All paid multiplayer commanders will also be offered for free during this period. Those hoping to get a longer COH2 experience will be able to buy the base game at a discounted rate throughout the weekend.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

On one hand I'm glad to see this since I still hadn't picked this up even thought I LOVED the original. Played for a long, long time. But, on the other hand, umm, seems pretty fast for them to get to this point in the marketing attempts. I take it the game hasn't sold well at all. But, most of the reviews did knock it pretty good for various reasons. So, last ditch effort? And, right on the heals of the Christmas Steam Sale too... man...
